SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Video posted on social media shows a vehicle narrowly missing a pedestrian and slamming into a car in Pacific Beach. Dennys Morales says the incident happened just after 4:30 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of Riviera Drive and Graham Street. Video shows the car making a turn before nearly hitting a woman walking in the street. The footage then shows the driver slamming into Morales' parked car. Morales tells 10News the man said his back tire was low, claiming he swerved to avoid hitting the pedestrian, instead hitting the parked car. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — U.S. Customs and Border Protection says officers seized more than 43,000 pounds of drugs at California ports of entry in June.Across six ports of entry along California's border with Mexico, CBP says officers stopped attempts to smuggle 34,685 lbs. of marijuana, 7,661 lbs. of methamphetamine, 635 lbs. of cocaine, 166 lbs. of heroin, and 165 lbs. of fentanyl in June. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Two people spotted by police smashing a window at a Pacific Beach Wendy’s restaurant were arrested after leading officers on a chase.The incident unfolded at around 1:15 a.m. at the fast food restaurant on 1621 Grand Ave., according to San Diego police.Officers were in the area when they saw two people smash a window at the eatery. When police tried to make contact with them, they got into a pickup truck and drove away.The truck reached speeds of up to 100 MPH as it led police on a pursuit towards Interstate 8.Police’s ABLE helicopter helped ground units track the truck into the Midway District, and as the vehicle tried to make a left turn on Rosecrans Street, it crashed into the center divider.The truck then entered a nearby strip mall and came to a stop. The two occupants got out, but officers arrived and took them into custody.Police are trying to determine if the window smash was part of a burglary attempt or an act of vandalism. 975

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- A border church and border mosque are calling for a day of unity. A Bi-National Day of Prayer will be held at Friendship Park; a place where families on both sides of the U.S. Mexico border can meet. The group is also releasing a short film to encourage federal leaders to keep Friendship Park open. The film is called “A Prayer Beyond Borders.”“Friendship Park is the only place on the U.S. Mexico border, where families who have been separated by U.S. immigration policy, can come together,” says Dustin Craun with CAIR San Diego. Families “can physically be together.”Worshippers have been holding prayers there every week since 2011. “We can pray together when we can come together. We can break bread together,” says Imam Taha Hassane, with the Islamic Center of San Diego. Worshippers say there have been threats to close Friendship Park, but no action was ever taken. They are hoping their continued presence will show federal leaders they need this space open. “Millions of families in the United States and Mexico have no access to each other at all,” says Craun. “Closing friendship park would close any possibility of them being able to see each other.”First United Methodist Church and the Islamic Center of San Diego are calling for a day of unity for people of all faiths, for the Bi-National Day of Prayer.
