KABUL, July 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi on Tuesday called for continued support of the international community to the war-torn Afghanistan."We want to see a peaceful, stable and independent Afghanistan that enjoys development and good neighborhood," Yang said addressing one-day international conference on Afghanistan in the Afghan capital Kabul."We should respect Afghanistan's sovereignty, and work together for the realization of Afghanistan run by the Afghans," he stressed.To achieve the goal, he proposed four points including ensuring security, political reconciliation, speeding up economic reconstruction and enhancing international cooperation."We call on international community to channel more assistance to infrastructure and other projects that will bring immediate benefit to ordinary Afghans," Yang said.He added that it is important to enhance coordination between regional and international cooperation so that they will complement and reinforce each other.The international community, he said, should remain committed to bringing durable peace and stability to Afghanistan. He also urged the international community to provide more help to Afghanistan in capacity-building and human resources development.China had contributed more than 900 million Yuan (over 123 million U.S. dollars) besides canceling 19.5 million U.S. dollars worth of debt owed by Afghanistan from 2002 to 2009.The first ever international conference hosted by post-Taliban Afghanistan with the participation of United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and some 40 foreign ministers among other delegates from over 70 countries and international organizations wrapped up with renewing support to Afghanistan.

OTTAWA, June 24 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese President Hu Jintao met Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper on Thursday for talks on the development of China-Canada ties.The two leaders are also expected to exchange views on major global and regional issues of common concern, said Chinese diplomats.According to the schedule, Hu and Harper will attend a signing ceremony of cooperation documents following their talks.Hu flew into Ottawa on Wednesday for a state visit to Canada.This year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Canada.

TAIPEI, June 9 (Xinhua) -- Governor of east China's Zhejiang Province Lu Zushan started an eight-day visit to Taiwan Wednesday with the aim of deepening economic and cultural cooperation between the two regions.Under the theme "Visiting Friends, Conducting Exchanges and Cooperation," the delegation will launch cooperation programs with Taiwanese counterparts in finance, agriculture, tourism, culture and education.The delegation will learn about Taiwan's experience in environment protection, disaster response and relief, and public services at the grassroots level.The delegation will also visit residential communities, villages and enterprises to communicate with local residents.Apart from provincial government officials, the delegation also includes entrepreneurs. The trade volume between Zhejiang and Taiwan hit 9.06 billion U.S. dollars last year, according to Lu.Since the beginning of this year, leading officials from various municipalities and provinces - Shanghai, Hubei, Fujian, Guizhou, Qinghai, Shandong and Sichuan - and the ministries of commerce and agriculture have led delegations to Taiwan to boost cooperation and exchanges with the island.
