A New Jersey state trooper admitted to the state's attorney general that he pulled over women while on duty in an attempt to ask women out on a date, WNBC-TV reported. The trooper, 37-year-old Marquice Prather, pleaded guilty on Monday to charges of invasion of privacy, tampering with physical evidence and falsifying or tampering with records. He had been suspended without pay since December after accusations mounted against the trooper. WNBC reported that Prather will be banned from public office, and likely will face probation for the charges. Authorities told WNBC that Prather tampered evidence by turning off his microphone, as the trooper claimed the microphone malfunctioned. Prather was accused by authorities of going through personal information and photos on the cellphones of female motorists. Prather was also accused of copying intimate photos and videos of the women, and he would solicit the women to go on a date with him. 1028

A surprise birthday party that resulted in 18 people testing positive for the coronavirus has left a North Texas man horrified as his father continues to fight for his life in a hospital intensive care unit.Ron Barbosa, who is married to a doctor and refused to attend the May 30 party for his daughter-in-law because of safety concerns amid the COVID-19 pandemic, said those hospitalized included his parents, both in their 80′s, and his sister, who is also battling breast cancer.Barbosa said his nephew, unknowingly infected with the virus, hosted last month’s gathering of 25 people that only lasted a few hours and followed the state’s latest health standards. During the party, he said the nephew interacted with seven relatives, who subsequently contracted the virus and spread it to 10 other family members, including two young children.“When people started getting sick, we really let everyone have it,” Barbosa told WFAA-TV. “We knew this was going to happen, I mean, this whole time this has been going on we’ve been terrified.”Gov. Greg Abbott on Thursday said Texas would halt its aggressive reopening as it deals with a surge in coronavirus cases and hospitalizations that has made the state a virus hot spot. A Pennsylvania school district has a different solution for tackling intruders: rocks.Buckets full of river stones have been placed in all classrooms at the Blue Mountain School District in Schuylkill County, Superintendent David Helsel said.If students at the rural school district can't evacuate during a shooting, they don't have to sit and wait."Protocol has been that students lie down, under desks and basically become passive targets on our classrooms," Helsel said. "We decided to empower our students with tools of self-defense if needed."In a video posted online, the superintendent said the district decided to bring rocks to the classrooms after staff members took the active shooter response training, ALICE -- alert, lockdown, inform, counter and evacuate.The training taught them how to barricade doors with desks and chairs, and run away from gunfire. It also encouraged students to throw everything, from pencils to staplers, at potential shooters "rather than wait passively" for them "to attack.""At one time I just had the idea of river stone. They're the right size for hands, you can throw them very hard and they will create or cause pain, which can distract," Helsel told CNN affiliate WNEP.But they only see it as a last resort."We've learned many things from these tragedies over the years," Helsel said. "One of them is that evacuating makes students the safest."And if students can't leave the building, they'll have their stones."We understand that a gun is much more deadly than a stone. A police department in Arkansas has apologized for sharing a misleading warning about the danger of opioids on its Facebook page."The post about the fentanyl was sent so me from another officer at another Department," the Leachville Police Department wrote on Facebook Thursday. "I simply shared it. I’m should have checked into it further before I posted it. Sorry for the confusion."The Leachville Police Department warned residents to wipe down shopping carts before using them to protect against the dangers of fentanyl, a powerful opioid. "Fentanyl or something like that still on their hands and they touch that cart handle and then you do, it can get into your system," the department originally posted on Facebook. "Scary but worth taking the time to clean the handle. All you'd have to do is rub your nose or touch your child's mouth. I never even considered this possibility.
