A now-deceased University of Michigan doctor is being investigated for complaints of sexual abuse. The university is asking any former patients of Robert E. Anderson who believe they were subjected to sexual misconduct during a medical exam to contact the U-M Compliance Hotline.Anderson was a former director of University Health Service and a former athletic team physician who worked at the university from 1968 until his retirement in 2003. He died in 2008.An investigation began in July 2018 when a former student athlete wrote to Athletic Director Warde Manual to detail abuse during medical exams by Anderson in the early 1970s, the university says.During the investigation, the university says it identified dozens of people who described incidents of sexual misconduct by Anderson. Now, the university is asking anyone with additional information to come forward.“The allegations that were reported are disturbing and very serious,” said President Mark Schlissel in a news release. “We promptly began a police investigation and cooperated fully with the prosecutor’s office. The former patients describe sexual misconduct and unnecessary medical exams, the university says. The exams reportedly took place in the 1970s, with at least one incident reported in the 1990s.“As part of our commitment to understanding what happened and inform any changes we might need to make, we now are taking the next step to reach out to determine who else might be affected or have additional information to share. Every person in our community should expect to feel safe and supported.”The Washtenaw County Prosecutor's Office determine that no criminal charges would be authorized. To submit a report, call the Compliance Hotline at 866-990-0111."I want to urge any former student athlete with information they are willing to share confidentially to come forward," Manuel said. "The health and safety of our student athletes is our highest priority."This article was written by 1982

A Missouri man with stage 4 pancreatic cancer says his rights were violated when police searched his hospital room after they suspected he might have marijuana. Last week, officers confronted Nolan Sousley, who was a patient at the Missouri hospital. Police say they received a call from hospital security, stating they smelled marijuana. Sousley said that made no sense, because he doesn't smoke marijuana. However, he admitted he does use CBD oil from marijuana plants, which has been cited to ease pain for patients with certain ailments. Missouri did vote to approve medical marijuana in this past election. However, patients would need medical cards, which won’t be issued until July. Dan Viets, an attorney who worked on the effort to make medical marijuana legal in Missouri, says he doesn’t believe there was legal justification to invade the patient’s room. Viets has consulted with Sousley about the hospital room incident. “There's just no justification for treating patients as if they were serious criminals,” the attorney says. According to reports, police said they received consent to search his bags. Ultimately, cops found nothing, and no citations were issued. In a statement on their 1217

After a transcontinental flight on the “Panda Express,” a furry American darling arrived early Thursday in his new Chinese home. The Washington-born giant panda Bei Bei was a beloved figure at the National Zoo, where he spent the first four years of his life. By agreement with the Chinese government, the zoo had to return Bei Bei to China this year.He is now settling into the Ya’an Bifengxia Base of the Giant Panda Conservation and Research Center in southwest Sichuan province. Bei Bei will be quarantined for one month while he adjusts to the time difference, learns to eat local foods and picks up Sichuanese dialect, state broadcaster CCTV reported.Bei Bei was conceived through artificial insemination and born to the National Zoo’s Mei Xiang and Tian Tian in 2015. His name, which means “treasure” in Chinese, was jointly selected by then-first lady Michelle Obama and Chinese President Xi Jinping’s wife, Peng Liyuan. Bei Bei quickly became a favorite on the zoo’s Panda Cam, and fans bid a bittersweet farewell to the cub online with the hashtag #byebyebeibei. With his handler, a veterinarian and 23 kilograms (66 pounds) of bamboo in tow, Bei Bei flew on a private jet provided by the shipping company FedEx and with a panda painted on its fuselage. The giant panda offers a bright spot during a dark period in U.S.-China relations, as the two countries have been embroiled in a long trade dispute.Once Bei Bei reaches sexual maturity at age 6, he will enter China’s captive breeding program, which is credited with bringing giant pandas back from the brink of extinction. They live mainly in Sichuan’s bamboo-covered mountains and are threatened by habitat loss.Bei Bei appeared to be adapting well to his new environment Thursday. He ate 6 kilograms (13 pounds) of bamboo for breakfast, CCTV said. 1822
