SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Three people suffered non-life threatening gunshot wounds this morning in the Mount Hope Community of San Diego, a police officer said.A group of people were in the area of Market and Denby streets about 1:45 a.m. when several gunshots were heard and three people were shot, said Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.A 39-year-old man was shot in the abdomen, a 32-year-old man was shot multiple times in the buttocks and legs and a 30-year-old man suffered a graze wound to his lips, Heims said.All three men were transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening gunshot wounds and police had no suspect information. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A brother and sister who own two Rancho Bernardo nail salons were arraigned Thursday on federal charges they were part of a forced labor conspiracy. Cindy Mydung Luu and Jason Luu lured their second cousin from Vietnam to San Diego in 2014 to work long hours in their salons, Eden Nails Lounge & Spa and Majestic Nail Salon, prosecutors said. The woman arrived on a student visa and attended Grossmont College, but applied for a spouse visa after marrying Jason Luu in 2016. Prosecutors said the siblings “engaged in a scheme intended to cause the victim to believe she would suffer financial and reputational harm if she did not continue working.” The siblings own Eden Nails Lounge & Spa and Majestic Nail Salon in Rancho Bernardo.“We are very grateful that this matter came to the attention of the Human Trafficking Task Force upon the suggestion and support of two caring and vigilant nail salon customers who had befriended the victim,” said U.S. Attorney Robert Brewer. “With their assistance, Task Force officers were able to assist the victim immediately and to investigate these alleged crimes.” The U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division also investigated the defendants’ nail salon for minimum wage and overtime violations, according to prosecutors.The Luu’s were arrested at their home in Tierrasanta Thursday morning. SAN DIEGO (KGTV and CNS) -- A suspected arsonist was arrested for allegedly starting a series of brush fires in Otay Mesa West, Sunday afternoon. MAST (Metro Arson Strike Team) investigators booked 49 year-old Ramon Guevara for arson.According to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, the blaze broke out just after 10:30 near 4th Avenue and Private Road. The fires were ignited in the valley at Otay Valley Regional Park.Crews say at least 10 spot fires started along the road and, as of 12:30 p.m., and had burned three acres. Sunday marked the third day in a row small brush fires popped up in the area. Units from the Chula Vista and San Diego fire departments and two firefighting helicopters joined to battle the flames. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A family of five was displaced after a fire erupted in their City Heights kitchen Tuesday.The fire began in the kitchen of a home in the 3700 block of 41st St. According to San Diego Fire-Rescue Capt. Juan Flores, the fire appeared to begin accidentally in the cooking area as food was being prepared.Six units responded, keeping the fire isolated to the kitchen of the residence, Flores added.The family, two adults and three children, were displaced by the fire. The Red Cross is currently helping them.No other units on the property were damaged. 576
