ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) - A baby python caught on video being snatched from a reptile store in Escondido has been recovered.Late Wednesday afternoon, police told 10news a break in case led them to a home in Escondido, where a woman spotted in surveillance video admitted to taking the snake and turned it over. The theft took place at LLL Reptile last Friday afternoon."Just shocking because of the way she did it," said District Mangaer Joe Alvarez.Video shows her walking around the reptile shop for about ten minutes, before something catches her eye. On the video, she's seen staring down an employee before she appears to slide open the top of a tank and grab something. Another camera shows her walking right past the checkout counter. From the final camera angle, a yellow snake is seen squirming in her purse."Looks like the snake is making one last ditch effort to get away, you see her literally grab the snake and put it in her purse before she walks out," said Alvarez.That snake is a baby yellow-colored, green tree python, about ten inches long. "A lot of guys pour their heart and soul into caring for these animals, and someone comes and just rips it out. It hurts," said Alvarez.Alvarez was concerned about the snake's welfare, because it requires high heat and humidity. The conditions are more important because of his young age, about three months old. Those worries dissipated when police stopped by the shop on Wednesday, snake in hand. Employees tell 10news the staff was "over the moon excited." Police tell 10news the woman was wanted on 5 outstanding warrants, including at least one drug-related warrant. (KGTV) -- A driver traveling the wrong way on Interstate 15 in Escondido was ejected from her car after crashing into a freeway zipper machine early Wednesday morning.At around 12:45 a.m., the California Highway Patrol received multiple calls about a car going southbound on northbound I-15 near Via Rancho Parkway.Moments later, the CHP was notified that the vehicle crashed head-on into a zipper barrier machine.CHP officials said the female driver was thrown from her car and landed about 30 feet from the wreckage. The woman’s Toyota was completely destroyed on impact.ABC 10News learned the woman was unconscious when she was rushed to the hospital. Her condition is unknown, but she reportedly suffered major injuries.No other passenger vehicles were involved and no other injuries were reported. 828

ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) -- The man accused of hitting and killing an Escondido bicyclist appeared in court Wednesday on unrelated charges. Jamison Connor, 41, pleaded not guilty at his arraignment. The charges were unrelated to the deadly hit-and-run and were instead a result of parole violations in which Connor was found with a bag of methamphetamine and a loaded gun during a traffic stop. Also in the truck at the time of the stop was Connor's young son, prosecutors say. The District Attorney's office went into detail outside the courtroom about the arrest. "During their investigation, police noted several signs and symptoms the defendant was under the effect of controlled substances and alcohol," said Assistant DA Chris Campbell. "When they took the defendant out, law enforcement searched the truck. Bruce Damon, the owner of Nomad Ventures in Escondido, says after a 10-week shutdown they are back serving outdoor enthusiasts."We're just hoping that people can get out and enjoy themselves safely, and kayaking was one of the first things that I understood was considered a safe endeavor," says Damon.In what came as a surprise to Damon, he saw media reports saying kayaks were in short supply due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That hasn't been the case at Nomad Ventures"We've had the busiest year as far as I can remember in terms of kayaks selling a lot of kayaks here," Damon said. So to say there is a kayak shortage, at least in San Diego, would not be accurate as far as Damon is concerned."Our shutdown was right when we were at complete inventory," Damon said. "Stock levels were high, and when we reopened, we had stock."He was quite alarmed when customers were steered towards shopping online when his shop was completely full of outdoor products. "We have back stock in storage units that we pull from to restock the store.
