According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, the crash happened on Mapleview Street near State Route 67. Two vehicles were involved in the crash, but authorities say the deputy was uninjured. The condition of the other driver and the circumstances surrounding the crash are unclear. 421

LEMON GROVE, Calif. (KGTV) - A major crash on SR-94 near Massachusetts off-ramp caused backups on the westbound lanes Wednesday night.According to CHP, the driver of an SUV traveling east and lost control just after 8 p.m. The SUV drove through shrubs on the center divider, jumped the median wall and ended up upside on the westbound lanes.The driver has been identified as a 35-year-old man. He was driving alone. He was taken to the hospital with major injuries, but was conscious, according to CHP.Alcohol is believed be a factor in the crash.Authorities on the scene were not sure if he was wearing a seatbelt.The crash caused cars to swerve out of the way, causing other accidents on the 94. One fender bender was reported, and a motorcycle rider lost of control and was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.Two lanes of traffic were closed off on the westbound lanes. All lanes were reopened shortly after 10 p.m. 933

LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV) - Four former students are suing the San Diego Unified School District and a former teacher, claiming he sexually assaulted them in high school. Team 10 investigative reporter Jennifer Kastner interviewed one of his accusers who says the school district failed to protect her. “When I was a senior at La Jolla High School in the year of 2003, I was sexually assaulted by my physics teacher,” says former student Loxie Gant.She’s one of the four women who are now suing the former teacher and the district, claiming the district had numerous opportunities to punish or report his behavior, but failed to do so.Attorney Mark Boskovich tells 10News, “The school district knew about these sexual assaults because the students reported [them]. This is not one of those cases where people didn't come forward. They did.”10News is not naming the former teacher because he has not been criminally charged.He declined to offer us any comment on the lawsuit.According to the suit, in 2003 two students reported that he put his hands down a female student's pants, but the complaint alleges that even after the district substantiated the complaint, it never reported it to the San Diego County District Attorney's Office or California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.The lawsuit states that between roughly 2003 and 2014, multiple female students, including Gant, reported being sexually assaulted by the same former teacher. Their attorney says he was allowed to keep teaching until he retired three years ago and now collects an annual pension of more than ,000.“I’ve been trying for years to get San Diego Unified to admit their faults and take responsibility for what happened,” adds Gant. According to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, the former teacher's credentials were revoked last year because of misconduct, but the details of the misconduct and whether it’s related to the allegations of sexual assault are not being disclosed to 10News. Less than a month after the Trump administration weakened Obamacare's contraceptive mandate, the University of Notre Dame announced it will stop covering birth control for students, faculty and staff.The Catholic institution, which had long battled the Obama administration over the mandate, will end coverage of contraceptives for employees after Dec. 31. Students, whose insurance follows the academic calendar, will lose the benefits after Aug. 14."The University of Notre Dame honors the moral teachings of the Catholic Church," the University Health Services director wrote to students in an email last week. "To comply with federal law, Aetna Student Health has provided coverage, separate from University coverage, for additional women's health products or procedures that the University objects to based on its religious beliefs."Under Obamacare, insurance plans had to cover contraception for women without charging a co-pay. "Meanwhile, University representatives are citing religious liberty as the rationale for a policy which is in fact discriminatory. The University's position is philosophically incoherent and morally untenable."Kate Bermingham, who is pursuing her PhD in political science at Notre Dame, said she depends on the free coverage for birth control pills and contraceptive counseling.
