For veterans, a no frills way to work on your game."It's short, it's inexpensive, and it's well kept," Fred Leipold, an avid Loma Club golfer, told 10News.Lauren Gomez first played at the club when she was just a toddler. Now, she tees off with a scholarship to Pepperdine University in her back pocket. "I know a lot of kids come out here to practice. There's not a lot of golf courses around here, so it's really important to Point Loma," Gomez said.More than a century of history sits in the club's soil. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The latest surge in coronavirus cases has led Girl Scouts San Diego to cancel all in-person gatherings, meetings, and events for the rest of 2020. The decision comes just three weeks after the resumption of in-person troop meetings had been approved.Christa Sherman, Troop Support Manager for Girl Scouts San Diego, told ABC 10News the decision is the responsible one and is widely supported by troops across the county. "Our Girl Scouts are so resourceful and they really want to do what’s best for their communities, for their schools, for their troops," Sherman said.Both the national and local organizations have been building up their ability to support virtual meetings since the beginning of the pandemic. Troop leaders have access to lesson plans and videos. They can bring necessary materials to drop off at scout's homes before the meetings."We’ve had better attendance at meetings, which is crazy, virtually then sometimes when we were meeting in person," said Elise Hilliard, a troop leader in the South Bay.Even camp-outs are now being done virtually. Kids set up tents in the yard or build forts inside. They set up their mobile device so they can share the experience with their friends. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The fate of a beloved torrey pine - saved from the chopping block more than seven years ago - is once again in question.Along tree-lined Long Branch Avenue, one tree has captured the hearts of Jeff Ray's family."My kids loved it.  They touch it all the time.  It's wonderful," said Ray.The towering torrey pine is believed to be about 90 years old."It signifies the beauty of nature and the history of the area," said Ray.The history includes safety concerns. In 2010, with the sidewalks buckling, city experts deemed it a safety hazard, concerned the leaning tree would fall over. Upset neighbors hired their own arborist. Eventually, the city relented, deeming the tree stabile and repairing the sidewalks.  Since then, the tree has been granted Heritage status, giving it extra protections. Still, safety concerns remain.  On Wednesday afternoon, a city advisory panel met and the city's forester told the group the tree isn't just learning. It's actually on the move."The tree has moved an inch-and-a-half in the last two-and-a-half years. The city is recommending removal of the tree based on safety," said City Forester Brian Widener. 1192

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Surveillance cameras caught two people in a truck turning an alley in El Cerrito into a dumping ground.Just off Dayton Street is one unsightly mess. Maurizio Rios, who lives near the alley, can barely look at it."Feels terrible. It's actually disgusting," said Rios.Right next to a new home construction are two barbecues, two chairs, and parts of a several different tables. "The image is not a good image. It's trash. It's a dump," said Rios.The men who sullied that image were likely not aware that Rios' surveillance cameras were watching.Monday afternoon, just before 3:30 p.m., a pickup truck loaded with stuff was seen driving down Dayton Street and turning into an alley. From several other cameras, the truck is seen driving through the alley, before it finally stops. Two people then get out and begin unloading. More than four minutes later, the truck drives off."It's unbelievable. Why don't they just take it to the dump?" said Rios.Rios filed a police report and delivered a big clue: a clear image of the front license plate.
