(KGTV) - A man was arrested in the North County last month for attempts at trying to abduct young girls, San Diego Sheriff's Department said Thursday.SDSO said deputies arrested Kyle Hackney in San Marcos on August 25 for trying to lure girls into his vehicle by offering them money and/or drugs in exchange for sex. SAN YSIDRO, Calif. (KGTV) - At least one person is dead after a collision with a tree off a South Bay freeway split their vehicle in two overnight.The crash occurred just after 2:30 a.m. Saturday on the southbound Interstate 805 connector to State Route 905 in San Ysidro, according to California Highway Patrol.Officers said the driver, who has yet to be identified, was traveling southbound on I-805 when he hit a tree. The collision split the vehicle in two and sending half of the vehicle into the westbound lanes of I-905.CHP officers said a portion of the vehicle also caught fire.The driver was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene, according to officers. (AP) -- A surfer was found dead face down in the water at Upper Trestles at San Onofre State Beach in San Diego County.The Orange County Register reports South Sector Superintendent for State Parks Rich Haydon says the man, described as middle age, was seen struggling Saturday as he paddled out into the surf at the break just south of San Clemente's border.It's unclear if the man was struggling because of the surf conditions or because of health issues.Nearby surfers then noticed the man face down in the water.Camp Pendleton Fire Department responded and continued attempting CPR before declaring the man dead at the scene.The San Diego County Medical Examiner had not released the man's name as of Monday morning. 746

(KGTV and AP) — A former Camp Pendleton Marine was found guilty Wednesday of the murders of five women in Southern California more than two decades ago, including a San Diego woman in 1988.Orange County jurors convicted Andrew Urdiales of five counts of murder with enhancements for attacking a volunteer usher after a college piano concert and picking up four prostitutes, driving them to remote or deserted areas, having sex with them and killing them.The verdict raises to eight the number of women killed by the 53-year-old former Marine.Urdiales was previously convicted of killing three women in Illinois in 2002 and 2004.
