SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County rose seven-tenths of a cent today to .567, its highest amount since Aug. 26, 2015.The average price has risen 21 times in the past 26 days, increasing 13.3 cents, including seven-tenths of a cent on Thursday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.The average price is 2.1 cents more than one week ago, 15.9 cents higher than one month ago and 54.9 cents greater than one year ago. It has risen 44.5 cents since the start of the year."Underlying gasoline wholesale prices have wavered within a range of about 10 cents for about the past month, allowing pump prices to remain relatively stable for this time of year," said Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California's corporate communications manager."Barring any major incidents affecting supply or oil prices, it seems unlikely right now that price averages will push as high as a gallon this spring." 1014

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego City Council voted unanimously Monday to expand city-imposed curfews on five local parks in North Park, City Heights and near Balboa Park. The vote will establish a midnight-to-6 a.m. curfew at Cedar Ridge Mini Park, Montclair Neighborhood Park, North Park Community Park and North Park Mini Park and a 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew at City Heights Square Mini Park. The council added curfews to the five parks after residents expressed concerns about people breaking the law after-hours on park grounds. The city does not currently have a blanket park curfew, which would make it illegal to be in a park after a certain time, but many of the city's parks generally close at or some time after sunset. Multiple City Council members expressed concern that the curfews could unfairly target homeless residents. North Park, City Heights and areas adjacent to Balboa Park currently have a significant portion of the city's homeless population. "This is about trying to address legitimate public safety concerns," said City Councilman Chris Ward, who represents the district encompassing all five parks. "A huge focus of mine is to make sure that this is not inappropriately used to criminalize homelessness." SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego Pride and its associated congregations rebuked the United Methodist Church Thursday for its recent decision to maintain its bans on same-sex marriages and LGBTQ clergy.The United Methodist Church announced the decision Tuesday at its General Conference after a group of international delegates voted in favor of maintaining the church's current rules. The delegates also voted down a new set of proposed rules that would have let each church decide how to handle issues of sex and gender.``The traditionalists within the United Methodist Church have chosen to exclude and marginalize LGBTQIA+ Christians whose only desire is to serve their church and express the Love of God in the world,'' said Brandan Robertson, the lead pastor at Missiongathering Christian Church. ``Nothing could be more antithetical to the message Jesus embodied and proclaimed.''According to San Diego Pride, 65 percent of people in the LGBTQ community identify as religious or spiritual in some way. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to extend a moratorium on evictions for both residents and small businesses for another month, in response to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.Supervisor Nathan Fletcher, along with board Chairman Greg Cox, made the request, which was unanimously approved. The board first approved an eviction moratorium in late March."By extending the moratorium, we are giving families and business owners another tool to assist in their recovery from the pandemic," Fletcher said. "The Board of Supervisors did the right thing today."Cox said: "This is not an effort to provide free rent. It's really an encouragement for tenants, landlords, to work together on a payment plan."Fletcher added that people who qualify for the moratorium have to prove economic hardship caused by the pandemic.Supervisor Kristin Gaspar said the San Diego Association of Realtors recently sent letter to the county and city of San Diego in support of a rental assistance program.Gaspar asked Chief Administrative Officer Helen Robbins-Meyer if the county can create its own rental assistance program, saying property owners use the rental payments they receive to meet their own bills and employ others."I don't think any of us imaged this pandemic would go on so long," she said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego City Council rejected an emergency ordinance Tuesday that would have banned motorized scooters on boardwalks in Mission Beach, Pacific Beach, Mission Bay and La Jolla.  State law already bans motorized scooters from sidewalks but doesn't mention boardwalks.   The vehicles have become increasingly common in San Diego since they were introduced in February by scooter-sharing companies Bird and LimeBike.
