There is a heavy police presence at Mercy Hospital in Chicago after there were reports of shots fired inside the building Monday afternoon.WLS-TV in Chicago is reporting there are multiple injuries, and the building is being partially evacuated. Chicago Police said one officer was shot and wounded, and he is in critical condition. The TV station has interviewed witnesses who said they saw at least one person get shot and heard as many as 20 gunshots fired.Some witnesses ducked and hid as they hear the gunshots ring out, WLS-TV reports.Police also said the suspect was shot. 602

To Cristal Franklin, she was so much more.“I saw her as my aunt. The one who cooked dinner for my roommate from college when I came home.  The one who bought the best gifts on earth for Christmas and birthdays,” Franklin said.Franklin says she visited her aunt in the days before she died, hoping for a miracle, but knowing her time would likely be short  She got word she had passed as she left town.“We were taking my daughter to college when we got the news. I made it on the plane. When the door closed, I lost it,” said Cristal.She drove by the Charles H Wright Museum of African American History the night before the public visitation and saw already overwhelming crowds. In her grief, she decided to take food to those first in line and learn about what her aunt meant to them.Cristal, a clothing designer, known as CFranks, decided to make a shirt that listed he aunt's accomplishments.“I want people to know she was more than a singer,” Franklin said. “She was a civil rights activist.”“I want people to listen to the old songs and play them for their children," she said.She shared memories of her aunt helping students pay for college, seeing families lose their belongings in a fire and responding, helping activists get out of prison, and paying for funerals of those in need.“It is overwhelming because she is our aunt,” Franklin said.Cristal is hoping people learn about her aunt through her creation. You can find it here. 1531

They say music is a universal language, something that can connect us on many different levels. So when it shows up where you least expect it, that makes it even more special.One woman's dream is translating across an entire community in more ways than she could have imagined.Listen closely and you can hear the sweet sound of jazz in one park. There's no band, and you can't see any speakers. But if you happen to stumble upon a small door tucked inside a tree trunk, you'll stumble upon your own personal performance."I was in awe to actually hear music coming out of a tree," says Bruce Bo-Wdry who lives near the park.He still remembers the moment he first heard music flowing from this sound totem, and seeing neighborhood kids share his excitement."They were all over it," Bo-Wdry recalls. "And then they go to the box and then they open up the door, and you can see the gleam on their little faces like awh you know!" Artist Nikki Pike came up with the idea. "I had a dream where there was a miniature opera singer singing in the hollow of the tree," Pike says. "And then I realized that maybe there was an opportunity." A sound totem in Denver, Colorado, was the first realization of that dream. From there she built more, putting the solar and battery powered music boxes in trees across her city, and filling them with music performed by people who live in those neighborhoods. "I sort of built the stage and they are the performers," Pike says. "So it's a real community effort." She doesn't share exactly where the totems are, instead she allows people's curiosity lead them to discovering music, art and community. An idea she believes can spread across the country."The leap in peoples mind to imagine them in their own community is easy," Pike says. "Whereas before when it was an idea and a drawing it was harder to imagine."While the totems add a special spark to the trees and communities they call home, Pike said these small spaces do so much more."I do think this is how you change the world," Pike says. Travis Reinking was arrested and charged with four counts of criminal homicide in the Waffle House mass shooting in Tennessee. His bond was set for million, but many were outraged by the fact that he was even given a bond.According to Nashville attorney David Raybin, under Tennessee law, every criminal suspect, except those in death penalty cases, are entitled to a bond.Prosecutors could still decide to seek the death penalty against Reinking, but that decision is a long way off from being made.It is possible that someone either Reinking or his family could post the 10 percent or 0,000 with a bonding company and he could walk out of jail.However, Raybin made it clear there is no way Reinking will get out on bond.In the unlikely event the suspect makes bond, then several things could and would happen. The district attorney could immediately request a hearing to increase the bond to or million.The district attorney could also ask the judge to put very onerous conditions on the bond such as house arrest, an electronic monitoring ankle bracelet, 24-hour supervision, etc.More Stories:  1162
