MUNCIE, Ind. – The Muncie, Indiana animal shelter is asking for the public’s help after they found 43 cats in a U-Haul.In a tweet, the shelter says they were called to help Muncie Police Department Officers around 11 p.m. Friday after they found the cats in the U-Haul with temperatures below 20 degrees.The shelter says a lot of the cats were pregnant and some had hernias. 382

More than 228,000 pounds of Hormel Spam and other canned meat products are being recalled because they might contain shards of metal, according to the US Department of Agriculture.The department's Food Safety Inspection Service said Saturday that the problem was discovered after four customers complained of metal objects in canned Hormel products. The FSIS did not say how the pieces of metal might have gotten into the products.Throughout the US, 12-ounce metal cans labeled "SPAM Classic" with the designation "EST. 199N" should not be eaten because of a risk of minor oral injuries, FSIS said. The cans have a "Best By" date of February 2021 and carry the following production codes: F020881, F020882, F020883, F020884, F020885, F020886, F020887, F020888 and F020889.Possibly contaminated cans of meat were also distributed in Guam. These 12-ounce metal cans contain "Hormel Food Black-Label Luncheon Loaf." The recalled cans are marked "Best By" February 2021 and carry the production codes F02098 and F02108.The products should be immediately thrown away or returned to the place of purchase, FSIS said. In a statement, Hormel said it was recalling the products "out of an abundance of caution," and that "the health and safety of consumers is our top concern."In 2016, Hormel voluntarily recalled 40 cases of Dinty Moore Beef Stew -- also because of possible contamination by "extraneous materials."The US-based Hormel Foods Corporation sells products in more than 70 countries. 1504

MIRAMAR, Calif. (KGTV) - A Marine was honored Thursday after disarming a gunman in the Chesterton neighborhood the week prior.Sgt. Jake McClung received the Navy Commendation Medal at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. According to the Navy and Marines Awards Manual, "It may be awarded to any service member who distinguishes themselves by heroic or meritorious achievement."San Diego Police got a call at 6:18 p.m. on June 4 of a man armed with a rifle, pointing it at families and hitting cars with the gun near Linda Vista Rd. and Wheatley St.McClung was driving through his neighborhood when he saw the man, identified as a Navy sailor in the police report, holding a rifle and threw a firecracker at his vehicle.Sgt. McClung said he parked in his driveway and watched the man walk into the street and point his rifle at cars. McClung said the man's wife and toddler came out to try and talk with him and were crying. McClung said the man pointed the rifle at his family and that's when McClung stepped between the gunman and the family to try and de-escalate the situation.He said the man was acting erratically and that gave the man's wife and child a chance to get inside. McClung said he teamed up with the neighborhood security guard and walked up to the man, trying to calm him.McClung said when he saw an opening he reached for the rifle and was able to disarm him, but he took a couple punches to the face, breaking his nose. McClung said he and the security guard wrestled the sailor to the ground and handcuffed him before police arrived."I don't know if he had PTSD of not, but if he was suicidal I also wanted to protect him, because he had a gun, he was in the middle of the street. The security guard later told me he was about to shoot him, so if that would have happened, it would have cost his life too. Even though he was obviously in the wrong, we have to take care of our own and sometimes taking care of our own means protecting them from themselves," McClung said.The man was arrested on several felony charges, including felony vandalism, assault with a deadly weapon, possession of an illegal assault weapon, possession of a large capacity magazine. NATIONAL CITY, Calif., (KGTV)-- Residents and business owners in the South Bay are bracing for another round of floods. They have already seen flooding on 18th Street in National City this week, caused by the king tides. Now with the rain, many expect it to be worse. According to FEMA, businesses near West 18th Street and Roosevelt Ave. are right in a low-elevation flood zone. Ocean water travels from the San Diego Bay, up the Sweetwater Channel, and into Paradise Creek. That creek backs right into Jose's Auto Electric yard. Wednesday morning, the city shut down the road because of flooded streets caused by King Tides. During the day, luckily, the water receded before reaching the front door at Jose's Auto Electric. Check 10News Pinpoint Weather The combination of rain and king tides reminded employee Alma Ramirez of last year's disaster. She remembered 30 inches of rainwater gushing into her office and destroying her equipment. "We lost a lot of stuff, and I remembered that I forgot my purse," Ramirez said. "I said, 'Oh my purse!' And I tried to come back, but in less than five minutes, the water was already up. And I said 'Forget about it, just let me get out of here.'"If the flooding gets worse, Ramirez said she may have to move all of the low profile cars in their shop to another location to avoid flood damage for their customers.Meanwhile, neighboring businesses closer to Paradise Creek have already put up sandbags to protect their front office doors and garages. Ramirez hopes it does not get to that point for her shop.The National Weather Services estimates the Flash Flood Watch to continue through 10 p.m. Thursday.
