BEIJING, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- A locomotive producer in central China's Hunan province on Friday rolled out a low-cost magnetically levitated (maglev) train that is more environmental-friendly than conventional ones.The three-carriage train is designed to run at a maximum speed of 100 km per hour and carry 600 passengers, said Xu Zongxiang, general manager of Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co. Ltd. of China South Locomotive and Rolling Stock Corporation (CSR). Xu said the new train was much quieter than conventional ones. While a conventional train moves forward by using friction between its wheels and the railway tracks, the maglev train replaces wheels by electromagnets and levitates on the guideway. According to Xu, his company's has minimized the risk of the new maglev train derailing or overturning. "It's ideal for mass transportation, as it is quiet and environmental-friendly. Its manufacturing cost is about 75 percent of a conventional light-rail train," said Xu. The maglev train has a minimum turning radius of 50 meters and can easily run in residential communities or on hilly slopes. "It's an ideal public transport option for Chinese cities and major tourist destinations," said Xu. Railway transport specialist Liu Youmei, also an academician with Chinese Academy of Engineering, said the new train is green, economical and safe. "It can be used for public transport in populous areas and at scenic spots with fragile environments." Liu said China is one of a few countries that have applied maglev technology. Beijing is building a maglev route, the Daitai line (S1), which starts at its IT center in Haidian district, passes through Shijingshan district, and ends in Mentougou district on its western outskirts. The line will be operational next year.The eastern metropolitan of Shanghai runs the world's first commercial maglev system on a 30-km stretch between the downtown business district and Pudong airport. The German-made maglev went into operation on Dec. 31, 2002.

WASHINGTON, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- The journal Science on Thursday chose the HPTN 052 clinical trial, an international HIV prevention trial as the 2011 Breakthrough of the Year.The study found that if HIV-infected heterosexual individuals begin taking anti-retroviral medicines when their immune systems are relatively healthy as opposed to delaying therapy until the disease has advanced, they are 96 percent less likely to transmit the virus to their uninfected partners. CHANGCHUN, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- An infrared camera set up by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and forestry authorities in northeast China's Jilin province has captured images of a wild Siberian tiger in the Wanda Mountains.Zhu Jiang, head of the WWF Northeast China Program Office, said Saturday that the photos, taken earlier this month, are the first images of a wild Siberian tiger taken in the mountainous area.He said the evidence consolidates the mountains' role as an important habitat for the endangered species, and reinforces the need for local authorities to tighten protection measures, especially clearing animal traps and improving animal rescue efforts.The agency estimates that there are fewer than 20 wild Siberian tigers remaining in China. They live in mountains in the northeastern Heilongjiang and Jilin provinces.Zhu said animal traps still pose a major threat to the safety of wild Siberian tigers and their prey.A wild Siberian tiger was found dead with a trap around its neck in the city of Mishan, Heilongjiang, in October.A WWF survey found an average of 1.6 traps for every 10 km of distance covered in the Siberian tiger nature reserves in Heilongjiang and Jilin last winter."The WWF hopes to cooperate with local governments to protect Siberian tigers and restore their habitats," Zhu told Xinhua. "We aim to help double the population of wild Siberian tigers in China by 2022, the next Year of the Tiger," he said.

Double standards must be avoided. Impacts against civilian lives and social economic development must be minimized," the ambassador said.Stressing that the UN chart and the fundamental principles of international law as established in it should be upheld, Li said rule of law in international relations should be strengthened.The Charter as well as principles of international law established in it constitute the call of rule of law in international relations and represents the bedrock for developing rule of law in international relations, he said."In the conduct of international relations and international affairs, adherence to the Charter and other fundamental principles of international law, such as respect for national sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, fulfillment in international obligation in real earnest is the essence of promotion of international rule of law," said Li.According to the Charter, UN Security Council resolutions constitute the integral part of international rule of law.
