SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Support for the Black Lives Matter movement is now visible on a downtown San Diego street.Over the weekend, various Black Lives Matter banners were put up on Broadway, between Third Avenue and Kettner Boulevard.The banners showcase the work of San Diego-based artist Anthony Tyson, and they display the message that Black lives of every age, gender, preference, past, and future matter.“You know, not that many people of my color, of my ethnicity is around this area. So, my people can come down and see it, and then also you have people that are used to this area seeing something different. And it gets them to ask the question of ‘what is this?’ and that's all you really need at the end of the day,” Tyson told ABC 10News.Tyson collaborated with the nonprofit Downtown San Diego Partnership for the project.“The Downtown Partnership believes strongly in its duty to ensure organizational efforts are promoting equality and addressing systemic injustice and racial discrimination wherever they exist. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The Navy is trying to find the owner of a boat that washed ashore at the Naval Base Coronado.The boat washed up and came to a rest against the fence that separated Coronado’s dog beach from the base.The Navy is asking the owner to come forward immediately to have the boat removed. The problem can get costly for the Navy.Several boats have already washed ashore this year. If the Navy can’t locate the owner, they have to cover the removal cost.Anyone with information on the boat’s owner is asked to call the Navy legal office at 619-545-8141. 573

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The convention center expansion initiative will not make the November ballot even though San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer gave it his best shot.Faulconer's ballot measure proposal to fund the convention center expansion, get homeless people off the streets and fix roads needed five votes to pass.  It only got 4.The vote came after Faulconer asked council to convene a special meeting with just 24 hours' notice.  The mayor requested it after learning there weren't enough valid signatures collected to place the measure on the November ballot. 602

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Thanksgiving with the Salvation Army will be different in 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic."We knew that we were going to do something," says Captain Sean Kelsley, who oversees the Salvation Army East County Operations. "The question was, what would it look like?"For the past 30 years, the Salvation Army held large, family-style gatherings to feed people experiencing homelessness, the disabled, and families in need at Golden Hall for Thanksgiving. They plan for 1,800 people, plus volunteers.But a gathering of 2,000+ people is strictly forbidden under California and San Diego County COVID-19 guidelines.In its place, the Salvation Army will offer "grab-and-go" style meals at four locations around the county."We're just glad to be able to be here," says Captain Kelsey.
