SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The U.S. Small Business Administration is offering low-interest federal disaster loans for working capital to small businesses in San Diego and 34 other California counties that are economically impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.Small businesses, private nonprofit organizations of any size, small agricultural cooperatives and small aquaculture enterprises that have been financially impacted as a direct result of COVID-19 since Jan. 31 may qualify for Economic Injury Disaster Loans of up to million to help meet financial obligations and operating expenses which could have been met had the disaster not occurred, according to SBA Administrator Jovita Carranza."These loans may be used to pay fixed debts, payroll, accounts payable and other bills that can't be paid because of the disaster's impact. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two San Diego City Council members called Wednesday on California Attorney General Xavier Becerra and District Attorney Summer Stephan to investigate San Diego City Attorney Mara Elliott's possible role in an alleged child sexual abuse cover-up at the San Diego Junior Theatre.Council members Scott Sherman and Vivian Moreno sent a jointly written letter to Becerra and Stephan imploring them to investigate allegations made by attorney Matt Valenti that Elliott improperly shared information on the case with then-Junior Theatre Board member Gil Cabrera, who Valenti claims tried to silence the case's whistleblowers."We are writing to respectfully request your respective offices' review and consideration for appropriate action, as the authority to investigate these complaints falls under the jurisdiction of your departments," their letter states. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two major projects at hotel sites in Mission Valley are scheduled to go before the San Diego City Council for possible approval today.The council members will consider a series of actions that would clear the way for the Legacy International Center, a long-planned religious conference center on the 18-acre site of the former Mission Valley Resort.The facility proposed by televangelist Morris Cerullo would encompass five buildings, including a new 127-room hotel and restaurant. It would also have a replica of Jerusalem's wailing wall and a domed theater featuring biblical films.Before the council are the project's environmental impact report and development permit, along with amendments to zoning plans.Opposition to the project could come from members of San Diego's LGBT community, who, in a Facebook event post, cite an alleged lack of transparency during the planning process, conflicts of interest and potential violations of the state open meeting law, among other things.Separately, the council will consider a major renovation project for the oldest hotel in Mission Valley. Plans call for dividing nearly 40 acres of the 64-year-old Town & Country Resort and Convention Center into three sections -- one for the hotel, another for an 840-unit residential development and the third for a 3.3-acre public park along the San Diego River.As part of the million project, the hotel would be downsized from 954 to 700 guest rooms and conference facilities would be reduced from almost 213,000 square feet to just over 177,000 square feet, according to an environmental impact report.The report said 27 structures and a parking lot would be demolished and four six- and seven-story buildings constructed, along with associated parking structures.The park section would include not only park land but also the restoration and enhancement of 8 acres of river habitat and the creation of a 14-foot-wide pathway, the EIR said.The Town & Country started in 1953 as a motor inn when Mission Valley was mostly farm land. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A gaping hole in an Allied Gardens hillside has many residents worried of a potential catastrophe.Outside of John and Sandy Knox’s bedroom window is a massive sinkhole that has already swallowed up their tree. The couple fears their home could be next.A broken-down drain pipe that is 50 feet deep and 60 feet wide is believed to be the cause of the hole.On Tuesday, ABC 10News spotted City of San Diego crews taking measurements and assessing the sinkhole.John Knox said he owns his mobile home, but a property management company owns the land it sits on and might be on the hook for fixing it.According to Knox, the management company has ignored his calls regarding the hole.ABC 10News learned the city is now investigating. 755

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A dream became reality for a San Diego woman, but not in a good way. Jenna Evans says she swallowed her engagement ring in her sleep.Tuesday night, Evans dreamed that she and her fiance, Bobby, were facing off with "bad guys" on a high-speed train. During the struggle, Bobby told Evans that she had to swallow her engagement ring to protect it. So she did. Not just in her dream, but in real life. She woke to find the ring clean off her finger. "When I woke up and it was not on my hand, I knew exactly where it was," Evans said. "It was in my stomach."The next morning, Evans and her future husband went to Urgent Care, where they saw her X-rays. Her ring was clearly nestled right in her stomach.A gastroenterologist, however, suggested it would not be best to let nature run its course. Doctors recommended an upper endoscopy to remove her beloved bling."I was really happy because I don't know if I can look at it and appreciate it in the same way, if I had to search for it," Evans chuckled.At this point, Evans says she could feel the ring in her stomach and it was starting to become painful.Doctors safely removed the ring from her intestines and returned the jewelry to Evans — well, to Bobby for safe keeping, at least. Bobby eventually gave Evans her ring back."I feel very grateful that I got it back, and that this is a happy and funny story," Evans said. It was a crazy adventure that gave new meaning to "A Sparkling bride, inside and out."She says she now takes the ring off when going to sleep.The couple will get married in Evans' home state of Texas, hopefully with the ring in hand, next May. 1641
