CHULA VISTA (KGTV) — Three children are recovering Sunday morning after they were struck by a car in the Otay Ranch neighborhood of Montecito Village. The crash happened Saturday just before 5 p.m. on Santa Victoria Avenue, about a block east of Muroaka Elementary School. According to Chula Vista Police, the pedestrians were crossing the street when they were struck by a silver 2018 Toyota Corolla. The children were not in a marked crosswalk.The two younger children were transported to a nearby hospital to be treated for their injuries, said CVPD officer Justin Zualet. Witnesses at the scene described them in good condition.The 15-year old female was transported in critical but stable condition with a head injury, lacerations, and abrasions.Zualet said all are expected to survive.The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Police at the scene said the driver, a male in his 50s, told officers he was using his cell phone at the time of the crash. CHULA VISTA (KGTV) -- A new support group in the South Bay hopes to fill a gap, serving children whose loved ones have been diagnosed with cancer. The group was created by siblings Sophia and Vincent Epley, ages 13 and 11. Last year the two found themselves facing a heartbreaking reality when both parents were diagnosed with cancer. Sophia and Vincent wanted to create a safe place where kids can ask questions and meet others going through similar situations. The Children and Family Cancer Support Group is led by clinical social worker Cara Fairfax and is open to all families.Details: 613

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio -- Doctors believe exposure to the drug fentanyl caused an illness to an inmate and 27 staffers at an Ohio prison Wednesday.Officers, nurses and one inmate at the Ross Correctional Institution fell ill after exposure to “an unknown substance” Wednesday morning. The Ohio State Highway Patrol said troopers arrived on scene at about 9:10 a.m. A total of 28 people, including 23 correction officers, four nurses and an inmate were treated on scene and then driven to a hospital for evaluation. One inmate was treated at the scene and not taken to a hospital. Adena Regional Medical Center officials said 24 patients arrived there at about 9:30 a.m.Dr. Kirk Tucker, the chief clinical officer at Adena Regional Medical Center, said that the sickest patient, an inmate, arrived at the hospital unconscious and not breathing. The others had symptoms including nausea and vomiting, lightheadedness, numbness in hands and feet and heaviness in arms and legs.Fentanyl is "our best clinical guess" for what caused the symptoms, Tucker said. The drug is an opioid 50-100 times more potent than heroin.Caregivers administered five doses of Narcan, Tucker said. But health officials delivered hundreds of doses in case they were needed.Most of the patients were monitored for symptoms for a few hours and then released, according to Tucker. He said one patient has been admitted to the hospital for the night.Tucker called the large exposure "a once-in-a-lifetime event." He estimated the hospital had more than 100 staffers available to help, thanks to their regular ER personnel and emergency staffers brought in from other parts of the hospital.The fast response at the prison and emergency preparations at the hospital "probably saved a life or two," according to Tucker."This could have been a lot worse," he said.About 31 inmates who were not affected were removed from the cellblock and moved to other secure areas in the prison, troopers said. A hazardous material unit was cleaning affected areas of the prison, troopers said. CHULA VISTA (KGTV) -- Authorities have arrested a 44-year-old Casa De Oro man in connection with his husband's murder.According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, Daniel Scott Jordan was taken into custody Thursday in Reno, Nevada following a joint agency investigation involving San Diego Sheriff’s Department, the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) Fugitive Task Force in San Diego, and the USMS Fugitive Task Force in Reno."Jordan was booked into the Washoe County Detention Facility as a Fugitive from Justice and will await extradition to San Diego," said sheriff's Lt. (KGTV) - A South Bay mom says the dinner she ordered using a food delivery app never arrived, and the driver couldn't be tracked down."It was my second time using the app," said Melissa Stone.Last Sunday, when Stone's kids had a craving for burgers and fries, she signed into her Grubhub app and ordered an early dinner from Bull Chicks in Chula Vista. An hour passed, but there was no food."Went onto the app, checked the delivery status, and it said it was delivered," said Stone.Confused, she checked her front door but didn't see any deliveries. She called the restaurant. An employee told her her food had been picked up by the driver 15 minutes earlier. She asked for the driver's information and got a woman's name and number. Stone says she tried to contact the driver, but the number was disconnected."I'm upset and hangry at this point," said Stone.She says when complained to Grubhub, they didn't have any answers but gave her a refund."I think somebody was hungry, took my food and ate it," said Stone.Melissa posted the incident on Facebook and got several responses from local Grubhub customers with similar stories, including one involving a male driver who reportedly picked up the food but didn't deliver it."They never received their food," said Stone.And they may not be alone. According to a 2019 survey by US Foods, nearly 30% of drivers with food delivery apps, admit to snacking or stealing the food they're responsible for delivering.
