Hartman predicts legal sports betting will generate millions of dollars in tax revenue, and it has already created more jobs in a few months in Colorado.“One of the operators from Australia is they’re moving their entire North American headquarters to Denver -- bringing 200 jobs,” he said.Many fans are betting on games through apps on their phones.“It’s been a challenging few months with the COVID and tax receipts are down,” said Mike Raffensperger with FanDuel the largest online real money gaming company in the US.Raffensperger is now seeing more government leaders reach out about generating extra income through gambling.“We’ve been speaking with regulators and legislators around the country and they’re looking for new sources of tax revenue and they been seeing the success,” he said.Success so financially tempting that it could lead to more states betting on legal gambling to help financially during this worldwide pandemic. 2086

Some of the advertised deals can even cause customers to stand in lines for hours and even camp out the night before the items go on sale. But this could be a big waste of time.“Don’t buy something just because it’s on sale,” says Kevin Brasler, the executive editor of the consumer watch dog group Consumer’s Checkbook.Brasler tracked sales and deals at 19 major retailers for nearly a year to find out which companies are telling the truth when advertising their sales.  "Most of these stores offering big ticket items are just offering the same deal they did before and the same deal they offered the next week,” says Brasler of his findings. “It wasn't a special price."  The worst offenders range from big box stores to high-end retailers. And with Black Friday around the corner, Brasler warns consumers to be cautious of those doorbuster deals, especially those early morning sales urging you to get up to get amazing deals on hot items before they go.   "There's for sure no reason to get excited about most of the items they are selling on Black Friday, because we found the sales they are offering then are just about the same as they otherwise are," he says.  Then there are those buy one and get one half-off sales. Brasler says these, too, are often a sham.  "These sales they just call them different sales; it's really rare that they have a super good price that you better grab right then and there otherwise it will go away forever,” Brasler says.  That's because the less expensive item is usually the one that gets the half-off deal. So, in reality, you're really not saving that much at all.Also, beware of going out of business sales.    "You're not offering them a special price; you're offering them the usual price," Brasler says.  Sometimes, the third-party liquidator prices the items higher than the original price. In just the past two days, two young athletes have been rushed to the hospital during sports practice. Just outside of Dallas, a 13-year-old student collapsed at football practice and later died. In Pennsylvania, a teen remains in coma after suffering a serious head injury.  The NOW’s investigative reporter Jace Larson obtained a new state-by-state ranking, showing how well states do at preventing and reducing the number of children who have a sudden emergency, while playing middle and high school sports.Samantha Scarneo headed up the study, which ranks how well states protect youth athletes. INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana — More than 150 names were read during a vigil Wednesday evening and family and friends gathered at the Indiana event to light a candle for each one. Each name was someone who was the victim of gun violence over the past year. Deandra Yates organized the vigil. She works with Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America and founded Purpose for My Pain, a support group of families of victims of violence. "We need better gun legislation. We need to make sure that families that have at-risk youth are supported and have resources for mentoring and different programming for their kids,"  Yates said. Yates says she's encouraged by the million grant that Indianapolis has received from the Trump Administration to fight gun violence. IMPD will receive 0,000 of that grant to hire three crime analysts for the city to help sniff out leads before crime happens. Those analysts will process shell casings and guns used in crimes to see if they were used in other crimes in the city. The hope is that the police can connect the crimes and get the ones responsible off the street. Another focus for those analysts will be on social media, tracking what criminals are sharing and talking about online.The other 0,000 from the grant will go to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office to handle all of the gun violence cases. 1399

It is a county-approved program that is supposed to help you pay for energy efficient home improvements, but some homeowners blame the program for big tax increases they cannot pay. At least three homeowners who received financing through the PACE (Property Assessed Clean Energy) program say they were misled. The PACE program allows you to pay for home improvements, like solar panels, through your property taxes.  Maria Silva said her Del Cerro home is her life. “It’s very important… it’s my home for 28 years,” Silva said.  It is a home she is in danger of losing. Silva said it started with a man coming to her doorstep about two years ago. Silva said he offered a deal on home improvement projects like double pane windows.  At first, she said no. However, she said the salesman was persistent. For Silva, it was more than a money problem.  She is legally blind. She wanted to wait for her son.  “He told me well, this promotion ends,” Silva said of the salesman.  She said she told the man she was visually impaired, but he told her not to worry and he “was going to read everything for [her].” She did not want to miss out on what she thought was a good deal. At the time, Silva said she was told she would be paying no more than ,000 a year. Silva said she understood the payment would be going on her property tax, but when she got the bill, it showed an increase of more than ,000 this year.  “It seems very predatory,” said her son, Allan Silva.  On top of that, Allan Silva says the company who upgraded their air conditioning unit never removed the old one like promised. “It kind of seems like some shady things happened to my mom,” Allan Silva said. Carolyn Reilly with Elder Law and Advocacy has heard of deception with this program.  “They're telling them it's a free product, it's a free government program,” Reilly said. Reilly said loans are approved for seniors on fixed incomes who cannot afford them and she’s handling many cases from the elderly who say financing was not explained.  “They're desperate because at some point, it's going to lead to foreclosure for them,” Reilly said. One Poway woman, who did not want to use her name, said she wound up with a ,000 bill added to her taxes. She said A1 Solar sold she and her husband on solar panels, but she had no idea a lien would be placed on her home in addition to increased taxes. She also alleges that her husband was not the one who signed the documents. “I was not happy with the salesman coming in and going to the computer and signing Jim's name to the documents. I don't think Jim fully understood what was happening,” she said. Her husband, Jim, is dealing with numerous medical issues. Michele Glen is their caretaker and also signed on with A1 Solar. Team 10 examined the contracts, which say the amount would be added to the homeowner’s property tax. However, Glen said the salesman “rushed [them] through it.” “He says, everything is fine,” Glen said.  Team 10 called the salesman they say went to their home. He said he had nothing to do with A1 Solar and hung up before Team 10 could ask any more questions. According to the Contractors State License Board, A1 Solar’s license was suspended for multiple complaints, including misrepresentation to obtain a contract. A lawyer who worked for the company says A1 Solar is now out of business. San Diego County Supervisor Dianne Jacob said the PACE program has generated about 0 million in projects and has created thousands of jobs. She has received a few complaints, but believes overall, the program is working. “Frankly, if there are bad apples in the barrel, you need to get them out of the barrels,” Jacob said. She told Team 10 the county will continue with the PACE program because overall it has “been very helpful to a lot of people.” Experts at the Approved Home Pros, a contractor’s association, say the PACE program can be a good fit for some homeowners, but it is important to be educated before committing to it.  Recently, Governor Brown signed legislation that aims to provide more oversight and strengthen consumer protections with the PACE program.     4297
