SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Crews battled a house fire in the Lake Murray area, Saturday night.The fire was reported just before 8:40 p.m. in the 8000 block of June Lake Drive, just off of Cowles Mountain Boulevard.Firefighters arrived on scene at approximately 8:42 p.m. to heavy smoke.Details on how the fire started or if anyone was injured were not immediately available. 375

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - By a unanimous vote, the San Diego City Council voted Monday to hike pedicab fees, making it nearly twice as costly to be a pedicab driver.      Police say the increase for annual operator fees from 2 to 9 is needed because of extra enforcement, including aggressive inspections and undercover operations targeting price gouging.Ali Horuz, who manages four different pedicab companies, says the higher fees will be a hardship, especially for drivers getting into the business.  He says right now, the local market is short about 50 drivers."It's going to be harder to find qualified drivers. We're competing against Uber and Lyft. It's definitely going to affect the market, where we are going to see fewer pedicab drivers," said Horuz.While the number of drivers is shrinking, the regulations may be increasing.  Citing complaints from the community, Councilman Chris Ward wants the city to set a uniform rate structure, while banning loud horns, flashing lights and amplified music. Horuz says the lights and loud horns are needed safety precautions, while overly loud music is a product of a few bad drivers.A council committee will look at the proposal Wednesday. 1240

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – County leaders Wednesday approved a plan that would allow San Diego businesses such as gyms and local places of worship to operate outdoors at county parks.The new initiative gives businesses another option as they look to operate amid the coronavirus pandemic. Last month, the state implemented restrictions that forced many businesses to either close completely or move outdoors.Under the plan, space at any of the county’s 30 parks could be used for service via a free permit.“We need to be creative and provide a lot of flexibility, particularly to churches, places of worship, gyms, and other fitness-oriented businesses,” said County Supervisor Dianne Jacob, who proposed the plan.Jacob said of the process to obtain permits: “I’m asking the county to streamline the process so it’s a very quick turnaround.”She added the process is similar to Poway’s, a city with a similar plan already in place.San Diegan Joel Nevarez visits San Diego’s Waterfront Park off Harbor Drive every morning for his workout because he enjoys it and the park was one of his only options."Getting some sunlight is good for you. I get some fresh air since I work from home, so I like it,” he told ABC 10News.Nevarez’s gym is one of many businesses that shut down amid COVID-19 restrictions. Documents show that Hunter is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday at 10 a.m. for a "change of plea hearing." Hunter said he would plead guilty to one count of misusing campaign funds in an interview with San Diego TV station KUSI. "My trial was set for January 22 -- that's not going to happen now. Tomorrow, on Tuesday, I'm going to change my plea to guilty. I think it's important not to have a public trial for three reasons, and those three reasons are my kids ... SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Authorities are investigating a man's death after they say he died following a fight. Police were called to the 5600 block of Imperial Avenue in Valencia Park around 1:12 p.m. after receiving reports of a man having chest pains. After arriving, the 51-year-old man -- identified as San Diego resident Joseph Ives -- was taken to the hospital where he later died.Police later learned that Ives got into a fight shortly before his death. According to police, after an altercation with another man, Ives told a witness that he was experiencing chest pains. Ives "did not have any obvious signs of trauma to his body," police said. Out of caution, San Diego Police homicide detectives are investigating the death.  773
