President Donald Trump delivered an address in Wilmington, North Carolina, on Wednesday as he designates the city as a "World War II Heritage City."Wilmington is the first city in the country to receive the designation.During the event, Trump recognized the efforts of several World War II vets in attendance and personally thanked them for their service.Trump's address comes a day after he visited Kenosha, Wisconsin — the site of several protests in recent weeks following the police shooting of Jacob Blake. While in Kenosha, Trump toured damage left behind by riots in the city and met with law enforcement officials, but did not meet with Blake or his family. 672

President Donald Trump on Sunday compared the special counsel investigation to McCarthyism, saying Robert Mueller made the late Sen. Joseph McCarthy "look like a baby.""Study the late Joseph McCarthy, because we are now in period with Mueller and his gang that make Joseph McCarthy look like a baby! Rigged Witch Hunt!," Trump tweeted.McCarthy led a Cold War-era inquisition of alleged Communists who he claimed had infiltrated American governmental institutions. The Wisconsin Republican's assertions, famously voiced in a speech in 1950, contributed to the paranoia and fear known as "the Red Scare." A special Senate Foreign Relations subcommittee investigated McCarthy's initial claims about Communists infiltrating the State Department and found them to be "a fraud and a hoax." 791

Mark Milley to be the next chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff."I am pleased to announce my nomination of four-star General Mark Milley, Chief of Staff of the United States Army -- as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, replacing General Joe Dunford, who will be retiring," Trump posted on Twitter Saturday morning. President Donald Trump issued a statement declaring victory in Tuesday's presidential election, adding that he believes that the election is being stolen. There is no evidence at this time of any widespread election or voting fraud. When Trump spoke from the White House early Wednesday morning, opponent Joe Biden held a narrow 225-214 Electoral College lead. "I want to thank the American people for their tremendous support. Millions and millions of people voted for us today. And a very sad group of people is trying to disenfranchise that group of people. And we won't stand for it. We won't stand for it," Trump said.A number of battleground states remain uncalled, including Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan, North Carolina. With an influx of mail-in voting, states are needing more time than usual to count ballots. Officials in Pennsylvania have said that the vote count there could take days. The winner of Pennsylvania could be what decides the winner of the election.“We are up BIG, but they are trying to STEAL the Election. We will never let them do it. Votes cannot be cast after the Polls are closed!” Trump tweeted.Immediately after the message was sent, Twitter flagged the tweet for misinformation. In response, Biden campaign manager Jen O'Malley Dillon called Trump's comments "outrageous, unprecedented and incorrect.""It was outrageous because it is a naked effort to take away the democratic rights of American citizens," she wrote. 1465

President Donald Trump has told his longtime friend and sometimes lawyer Rudy Giuliani that he’s “going to beat” the coronavirus. The New York Post says Trump called Giuliani on Saturday to assure him he’s doing fine following a sobering assessment from the White House chief of staff.Trump reportedly told Giuliani on the call: “I feel I could get out of here right now. But they’re telling me there can always be a backstep with this disease. But I feel I could go out and do a rally."Trump also reportedly explained that he continued to engage in a high-risk activity despite the pandemic because he’s the “president of the United States. I can’t lock myself in a room. … I had to confront (the virus) so the American people stopped being afraid of it so we could deal with it responsibly.”He also said he hopes that by beating the virus he “will be able to show people we can deal with this disease responsibly, but we shouldn’t be afraid of it.”Trump is being treated around the clock by a team of doctors at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. 1066
