SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego rolls out the red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple carpet in July for thousands of people who will be attending the Pride Festival headlined by Melissa Etheridge. The event, held Saturday and Sunday July 13 and 14, will take place at Balboa Park’s Marston Point on the corner of Sixth Avenue and Laurel Street. Festivalgoers can enjoy performances from more than 100 entertainers on multiple stages, food booths, vendors, and exhibits. General admission is for a weekend pass, with discounts available online before the event. Teens and children high-school aged and younger can get into the festival for free. Tickets are available at the front gate box office when the festival is open. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Students and staff at the King-Chavez Community High School Freshman academy have had a tumultuous few months.  They were displaced from their classrooms location at 1010 Second Avenue in downtown.The building closed down earlier this year for asbestos treatment, displacing many tenants including the school.RELATED: 550 San Diego city workers relocated due to asbestos“It’s been a nightmare,” Principal Kevin Bradshaw said, saying it was a very abrupt closure. “We left school on a Friday evening, came back on a Monday morning and we were locked out," he said.In a statement, the building manager said this to 10News: “We sent an email notice to all tenants immediately following notification from the regulatory agency."Bradshaw says they were not given time to move their things out of the classroom, in fact, they weren’t even allowed to retrieve their equipment. “We have televisions, computers, student’s work, teacher’s items, anything you would have in any normal campus is still in the building,” Bradshaw said. He says they’ve had to replace all those things in order to continue the education of students. The school also had to move their classes to the Boys and Girls Club in Clairemont. Bradshaw says that means they've had to bus their students to that location every day for more than two months, and the bills are racking up.He’s hoping they will be reimbursed.“The owner and all parties involved are actively evaluating the expenses associated with the shutdown,” building management told 10News in a statement. They went on to say that “the building has undergone extensive testing in accordance with the regulatory requirements for occupancy,” and is completely safe now.Bradshaw says he’s still not ready to bring students back to the building until he’s sure it’s safe and they won’t be displaced again. 1889

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego’s City Council unanimously approved several measures Tuesday they hope will make it easier for businesses to stay open amid the coronavirus pandemic.The first measure cements Mayor Kevin Faulconer’s executive order allowing some businesses to operate outdoors.The measure allows gyms, barber shops, churches and nail salons to expand business to private parking lots, sidewalks, and on-street parking.“Employees can return to work and families can again participate in programs and support our businesses, if they so desire,” said City Councilmember Chris Cate.Businesses will need to apply for a permit to operate outside, the city says.The second measure reallocates 0,000 from the city’s Small Business Relief Fund toward helping businesses in underserved communities. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Sea World employees went on a rescue mission Saturday to free a Sea lion pup from a plastic ribbon wrapped around his neck on Boomer's Beach.The timing is poetic, on World Oceans Day. A day that "provides a unique opportunity to honor, help protect, and conserve our world’s shared ocean," according to WorldOceansDay.org.Sea World Animal Care Specialist Brooke Hubbard said they had been monitoring the pup and received another call Saturday. This time it sounded like the 2-3-year-old sea lion was in an area where they could safely remove the ribbon.A rescue that saved the mammal's life, "when there is lining around it's neck it can constrict it's airways and it's esophagus making it so they can't breathe or eat over time," Hubbard said.Video from her supervisor's perspective shows what it was like when the team snuck up on the sea lion, threw their net and cut the ribbon off with a pair of ordinary scissors.When they released the Sea lion, he scooted back to the ocean, "that's the best feeling in the world, especially since we didn't have to bring it back here and rehabilitate it," she said.Hubbard said this is is completely preventable, "please don't litter at the beach.
