SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A brush fire burning near the border in Otay Mesa grew to 10 acres Monday afternoon, according to Cal Fire. Thick, white smoke could be seen billowing from miles away. Cal Fire originally reported the fire around 4 p.m. burning in Tin Can Canyon. The fire then grew to five acres before Cal Fire posted a third tweet, noting that the blaze had grown to 10. "Firefighters continue to make progress," the agency said Monday evening. Just before 6:30 p.m. Monday, the agency said crews were able to stop the forward rate of spread.#BorderFire [update] The IC reports that the forward rate of spread has been stopped. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A fire that burned near SDSU Sunday afternoon, forcing the evacuation of a nearby apartment complex has been contained. According to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, the fire burned roughly two and a half acres. University Police evacuated the Villa Alvarado Apartments during the blaze. Evacuees were asked by the school to report to the Tula Community Center at 6126 Montezuma Road. As of 2:18 p.m. evacuations were still in place. San Diego Fire-Rescue Tweeted around 1 p.m. that the blaze was burning on the 5500 block of Canyon Crest near SDSU. RELATED: Check traffic nearby“SDFD has many firefighters on the ground as well as air resources on this fire. Please avoid the area if possible,” the department said in a tweet. The fire also forced MTS to miss several stops during the fire including it's College and Alvarado stop, College and SDSU stop and SDSU Transit Center stop. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A BB gun shooting spree has neighbors frightened Sunday after more than a dozen incidents across San Diego.At the corner of L Street and Sixth Avenue a woman was shot in the arm overnight, according to San Diego Police. She was walking in a small group and one of the men was an exhibitor at Comic Con, staying at the Omni Hotel, where they were headed before the shooting. That man, Sal Abbinanti, said "The girl I was with said a guy in a white car in the back seat, she heard a trigger sound and then she's like oh I think I just got shot which kinda got out attention and then we saw it was bruised and bleeding and it looked like a BB." "There's just so much security down here, so many San Diego police down here. I was surprised that this guy was dumb and brazen to do something like that," he said the hotel provided excellent care to his friend.Over in National City and Paradise Hills, at least a dozen cars were hit.Coronado Police say at least 11 businesses were hit.Downtown, police reported four more instances of people being shot at or hit by BB guns.The rash of crimes comes after 10News reported more than a dozen businesses and car windows busted by BBs in the past month:June 24th – Numerous vehicle windows were vandalized in the Point Loma, Ocean Beach and Mission Hills neighborhoods.July 1st and July 2nd - Three businesses in the Hillcrest neighborhood were vandalized.July 2nd - Two businesses in the Park West neighborhood were vandalized.July 2nd and July 3rd – Numerous vehicle windows were vandalized in the Clairemont neighborhood.July 6th - Three businesses and one vehicle were vandalized in the Midway area.
