(KGTV) — California officials announced Thursday the state's REAL ID identification is now in line with federal requirements.Last December, the Department of Homeland Security notified state officials that requirements for the new identification and drivers license needed to be stricter.Now, those applying for the card will need to show one proof of identity, original or certified; one proof of Social Security Number; and two proofs of California residency. A complete list of acceptable documents is available online here.Those who have already received a REAL ID license or card will receive a letter in the mail asking them to confirm their address and must mail the form back to the DMV. This will count for their second form of identification.RELATED: San Diego DMV customer has warning about websitePreviously, the state only required one proof of residency and counted the post office's delivery of the ID as the second form, placing it at odds with federal requirements.Beginning on Oct. 1, 2020, the REAL ID drivers license or ID will be needed for airline passengers traveling domestically or accessing federal facilities or military bases. However, airline passengers will still be able to show a passport to travel within the U.S. as well.Residents are encouraged to schedule appointments to apply for a REAL ID and fill out the necessary paperwork (available online) before visiting DMV offices.So far, the state estimates about 4.1 million REAL ID drivers licenses and cards have been issued. 1518

(CNN) -- When a World War II veteran turned 99, he had one regret. He had an opportunity earlier in life to meet some of the last living Civil War veterans, but he didn't go.Now 100-year-old Sidney Walton is giving people across the country the chance to meet one of the last living World War II veterans.Walton has been on a mission to visit all 50 states over the past year and a half, and he passed the halfway mark earlier this month. He's made it to 26 states, meeting with governors and anyone who will hear his story.He wants people he meets to remember the sacrifice World War II veterans made, especially as there aren't many left. He decided to leave his home in San Diego and meet with governors of each state as a way to reach a large number of people.He first met with Rhode Island Gov. He calls it his "No Regrets Tour.""We're going to complete this tour," Paul Walton, Sidney Walton's 64-year-old son, told CNN. (KGTV) – In an effort to conserve energy amid a lingering heat wave, DMV offices across California will close at 3 p.m. from Monday through Wednesday this week.The decision to close early was made to save energy and “protect the health and safety of customers and employees from high heat impacts,” officials with the agency said.The early closures run from Aug. 17-19.DMV offices will accommodate customers -- with and without appointments -- until 2:30 p.m. on the specified days.Customers who have appointments on the specified days between 2:30 p.m.-5 p.m. will be contacted and have their appointments rescheduled.DMV officials said customers can visit the agency’s website for many services.Officials added: “The DMV is also using shade structures where available, offering mobile tickets so customers can wait in an air-conditioned car or other building and return when it is their turn, and making water available to customers and employees.During the closures and where possible, DMV employees will telework. (KGTV) — A Los Angeles-area police pursuit ended late Tuesday with a suspect breakdancing as officers held him a gunpoint before being arrested.The chase took California Highway Patrol officers through the San Fernando Valley after the suspect failed to yield to commands to stop, according to ABC-affiliate KABC.Officers pursued the suspect over the 101 Freeway, north on the 405 Freeway, and then east onto the 118 Freeway.As the driver slowed in the Pacoima area, officers were able to enact a PIT maneuver and spin the suspect's vehicle out.The driver exited the vehicle and began walking backward toward CHP officers. But before turning himself over, he stopped and began breakdancing in the street, as officers kept their firearms trained on the man.After a short dance, the man surrendered to police without incident. 832
