SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Officials with the San Diego Padres announced Friday that pitcher Luis Perdomo received a a five-game suspension for his role in Wednesday’s bench-clearing brawl during a game against the Colorado Rockies.The scrum began in the bottom of the third inning when Padres starting pitcher Luis Perdomo threw a 96-mph pitch that nearly hit Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado in the back.Arenado threw down his helmet and bat and charged Perdomo, who countered by throwing his glove at the batter. As Perdomo backed up to avoid an Arenado punch, players and coaches from both sides stormed the field in an attempt to break up the fight.RELATED: Base-brawl: Benches clear in Padres-Rockies game“Arenado has received a five-game suspension for charging the mound and then fighting.  Rockies outfielder Gerardo Parra has received a four-game suspension for fighting during the incident,” the team said in a statement. "Padres pitcher Buddy Baumann has received a one-game suspension for fighting during the incident.  Perdomo, Arenado, Parra and Baumann all received undisclosed fines in addition to their suspensions.,” Padres team officials said.Padres catcher A.J. Ellis, infielder Freddy Galvis and Rockies pitcher German Márquez were also fined for their actions during the altercation.The brawl likely stems from Tuesday night when Padres outfielder Manuel Margot was hit in the ribs in the 9th inning. He was placed on the disabled list with bruised ribs.Perdomo, Arenado, and Parra are set to begin their suspensions tonight."If any player elects to appeal, then the discipline issued to him will be held in abeyance until the process is complete.  The suspension of Baumann, who has since been optioned to Triple-A El Paso, will be effective upon his return to the Major Leagues, pending appeal,” the Padres said. 1870

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- New data from WalletHub shows how California ranks on a list of best and worst states for military retirees.Overall, California ranked high when it comes to quality of life and health care, but much lower when it comes to the economy and homelessness.WalletHub ranked states on a number of other factors, with one being best and 25 being average.In the quality of life category, California comes in at 10th on the list of 51 states and the District of Columbia.From there, the data starts looking less attractive. When it comes to the economic environment, California ranked low coming in at 48th.California also ranked 48th for veterans per capita, yet ranked 49th for the percentage of homeless veterans.The area where California ranked best was number of VA health facilities per number of veterans where the state took the 3rd spot.The data also found that red states are more friendly towards military retirees than blue states. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Police are searching for a sexual assault suspect who forced a woman into his truck and drove to another area to assault her this week.The suspect drove alongside the 27-year-old woman in the 3900 block of Delta Street just before 11:30 p.m. Thursday, San Diego Police said. The man exited the truck and threatened to use a Taser on the woman if she didn't comply with his demands.Police said he forced the woman into his truck, drove to an unknown area near 39th St. and Broadway, and sexually assaulted the woman. He then drove to the area of 32nd St. and National Ave. and let the woman go after she pleaded with him, police said.The man is described as a black male between 40- and 50-years-old, with short black hair, and a graying goatee. He weighs an estimated 160 to 170 pounds and stands about 5-foot, 6-inches tall. He was last seen wearing a black or dark blue t-shirt and gray basketball shorts.The man's vehicle is described as an older model white extended-cab pickup truck, possibly with a blue stripe on the side.Chula Vista Police reported a similar incident with a similarly described suspect and vehicle happened in their area. Video captured the vehicle in the vicinity of the E St. trolley station in Chula Vista. A woman posted a picture of the San Diego barista on Facebook with the caption “Meet lenen from Starbucks who refused to serve me cause I’m not wearing a mask. Next time I will wait for cops and bring a medical exemption.”Related: GoFundMe started for San Diego barista after woman posts about not wearing mask at StarbucksMatt Cowan, who lives in Irvine, said he saw the post and knew he and some friends wanted to tip Lenin, so he started a GoFundMe.“Genuinely just I wanted to give Lenin a five, ten dollar tip,” said Cowan.About a week later and the tip donations on the GoFundMe have climbed to more than 0,000, a number the barista had not anticipated.“I was speechless like honestly I can’t really explain how I feel or how to vocalize it because this is not what I expected to happen at all,” said Lenin Gutierrez.People from around the world have donated, with messages of support pouring in for Lenin. Some have encouraged his love of dance, some have shared their own messages of bad customer service experiences and others are proud of him for keeping people safe by encouraging mask wearing."It’s touched something in everyone around the world and I think it just shows that there’s good people everywhere," said Cowan.Lenin said this money will give him the resource to accomplish many dreams. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — One young man was named the newest recruit of the San Diego Police Department Wednesday.SDPD's newest officer, five-year-old Liam, was sworn in by Chief David Nisleit as part of a ceremony hosted by the department and Make-A-Wish San Diego.Liam, who was born with a congenital heart defect, began his first day on the beat soon after his ceremony. He and his partner received a call to help capture a bank robber. Bank of America also partnered with Make-A-Wish to offer up a location for a bank robbery and arrest scene, where the two cops took in the suspect.Liam and his partner then returned to police headquarters to interview the suspect.The Make-A-Wish event was held just one day before the department celebrates its 130th anniversary. 770
