Scammers are now finding victims through text message. The Better Business Bureau says tech scams still make up a fairly small number of all reported scams, but they are on the rise. The BBB says scammers are getting smarter and they're sending people texts that appear to come from their bank and they'll say they've found a fraudulent transaction on your account and ask if it was you. You'll likely say "no" because that transaction never happened. So then they'll ask you for your personal information to fix it. The BBB says don't be so quick to hand it over. "When someone reaches out to you — whether it's by phone, by text message, on social media or email — when someone reaches out to you, that's when you need to be especially cautious and not share personal information," says Katherine Hutt with the BBB.If you believe there may be a concern about your bank account, you should be the person issuing the call. The BBB says you can find your bank's phone number from the back of your card. Also, getting a gift card in the mail sounds great, but 1071

Summer might technically be over in Doha, Qatar, but if you were to visit the small, desert nation in the middle of the Persian Gulf this weekend, you would still think it is summer. Temperatures are expected to approach 100 degrees, which is relatively mild compared to the actual summertime temperatures in Qatar. In the summer, temperatures frequently top 110 degrees. Because of the year round extreme heat, and FIFA's mandate that stadiums that host the World Cup be open air, Qatar has been renovating and building stadiums that are both open air and air conditioned. A stream of cold air is funneled at ankle level under the seats. The cold air then travels down the stadium and onto the field. There are also vents at the top of the stadium. The technology relies on the physics of cool air moving downward. According to the Qatar government, the temperature in Khalifa International Stadium can drop to around 70 degrees, when it is nearly 100 degrees outside. Khalifa International Stadium opened in 2017, and was the first of eight stadiums expected to host World Cup games in 2022. A second stadium opened in May. Six more are expected to open by 2022. Next month, Khalifa International Stadium will host the Arabian Gulf Cup, which is a contest between the national teams for five countries. In December, the stadium will then host the FIFA World Cup. "Qatar's hosting of the Arabian Gulf Cup is another opportunity to test the country's event hosting expertise as we continue preparations for the FIFA Club World Cup in December and the FIFA World Cup in 2022," said Saud Al Mohannadi, vice president of the Qatar Football Association and chairman of the Arabian Gulf Cup local organizing committee.Qatar's bid to host the World Cup has not come without controversy. Following Qatar's winning bid, a multi-national investigation looked into how Qatar won the bid to host the 2022 World Cup, among other scandals tied to soccer sanctioning body FIFA. Dozens of FIFA officials were arrested in 2015, and several of whom have since been convicted for corruption. FIFA officials have been blasted by some for ignoring human rights concerns about Qatar, including its lack of a free press, lack of protection of guest workers, and its stance on homosexuality. 2282

Sears, Macy's, Claire's, JCPenney. More and more recognizable names are disappearing from shopping malls around the country while experts have said the mall as we know it is dying, but they could be saved by Generation Z.“I’d say at least like once a week I try to go to the mall just to see what’s going on and what’s new, even if I don’t get anything, it's just really nice to try on clothing,” Erin Brod of Medina, Ohio, said.Brod and her best friend Lauren Romano are both 17. That makes them a part of Generation Z, or the group of people born between 1995 and 2010.And they’re the generation now being credited with maybe saving the malls.“I think 20-year-olds, they do more online shopping and it's still surprising that teenagers still come out to the mall and stuff and I know a lot of them are closing, but I still think teenagers enjoy trying stuff on more,” Romano said. The International Council of Shopping Centers has data to back that up.Between February and April of last year, 95 percent of Gen Zers went to a mall at least once, while only 75 percent of millennials and 58 percent of Gen Xers went during that same time period. And though experts say Gen Zers online shop too, there are a few reasons why they still like doing things the old-fashioned way.“One of the things for them is a sense of legitimacy, this idea that this is a legitimate place to order from online if they have a brick and mortar store. I want to know that I can go to either one to get what I need,” said Corey Seemiller, an associate professor at Wright State University and Gen Z expert. There’s also the need to see and touch.“Trying on is very important for me because you never know what it's going to really look like because the models online are totally different from what I look like,” Brod said. And save a buck in the process.“Discounts are very important and obviously help with your decision on what you choose to get,” Brod said. Now retailers are getting creative, offering in-store discounts through a medium most Gen Zers are already familiar with.“Forever 21 had one recently where you took a picture, put it on Instagram, showed it to them at the register, you’d get 21 percent off. A lot of retailers are taking advantage of the digital platforms available today,”said Ed Jaroszewicz, the marketing director of Southpark Mall in Strongsville, Ohio. And that’s what Gen Zers like Brod and Romano are looking for.“Great deals, customer service so when people are really helpful and they come up to you and ask if you need help with anything," Romano said. "That really makes a difference." 2609

Reality TV stars Todd and Julie Chrisley were indicted on Tuesday by a grand jury on tax evasion charges by the Northern District of Georgia. The 12-count indictment, obtained by CNN, also alleges the Chrisleys committed bank fraud and wire fraud conspiracy, among other offenses. The married couple are stars of the USA Network reality series "Chrisley Knows Best," which follows their family's over-the-top lifestyle and activities. Before the indictment was issued, Todd Chrisley took to Instagram to deny the claims, implying the charges are based on evidence presented to investigators by a disgruntled former employee. He alleged this employee, whom he did not name, was stealing from the family, created false documents, forged their signatures and bugged their home. Chrisley said it's the employee's second attempt to get the family charged and called it an act of retaliation."I'm telling you all this now because we have nothing to hide and have done nothing to be ashamed of," he wrote on Instagram. "Not only do we know we've done nothing wrong, but we've got a ton of hard evidence and a bunch of corroborating witnesses that proves it.""Chrisley Knows Best" has aired on the USA Network since 2014 for a total of seven seasons.A spin-off, "Growing up Chrisley," which focuses on children Chase and Savannah, premiered in April. 1350

Sandeep Singh Dhaliwal had a deep impact on his community, and that includes Houston Astros shortstop Carlos Correa.Dhaliwal -- the first Sikh to become a deputy at a Houston-area sheriff's department -- was gunned down while conducting a traffic stop Friday. On Monday, Correa, a 25-year-old from Ponce, Puerto Rico, visited the family, giving them ,000."Thank you Sandeep for everything you did to help others here in Houston and Puerto Rico!" Correa tweeted Monday. "Rest In Peace you'll always be remembered!"Correa said he felt especially connected with Dhaliwal because the 42-year-old officer had helped citizens of Correa's native Puerto Rico in the devastating aftermath of 2017's Hurricane Maria."When I heard he went to Puerto Rico to help a lot of people over there, he was one of the first ones to go out there, leaving his family behind to go out there and help people that were in need back home," Correa said. "It really touched me. A lot of people in Puerto Rico suffered a tragedy with Hurricane Maria."According to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, it's the first time he's seen the family smile, leading Correa to say: "It means a lot. I saw them smiling and laughing. It really meant a lot to me. To come here to bring a little joy into their lives in this moment of tragedy, it really touched me."The funeral for Dhaliwal will be Wednesday, according to the sheriff's office. The Astros, who are favored to win the World Series, begin their playoff run on Friday, facing the winner of the American League Wild Card Game between the Tampa Bay Rays and Oakland Athletics. Correa was part of Houston's first World Series title team, in 2017. 1674
