WASHINGTON, D.C. – Two different doses of a thyroid medication are being recalled because they're not potent enough.The Food and Drug Administration announced Thursday that Acella Pharmaceuticals is voluntarily recalling one lot of 15-milligram and one lot of 120-milligram NP Thyroid?, Thyroid Tablets.The products may have as low as 87% of the labeled amount of levothyroxine, which is used to treat hypothyroidism (an underactive thyroid), according to the FDA.The company’s risk statement says patients being treated for hypothyroidism who receive sub potent NP Thyroid may experience symptoms of hypothyroidism, including fatigue, increased sensitivity to cold, constipation, dry skin, puffy face, hair loss, slow heart rate, depression, swelling of the thyroid gland and/or unexplained weight gain or difficulty losing weight.“There is reasonable risk of serious injury in newborn infants or pregnant women with hypothyroidism including early miscarriage, fetal hyperthyroidism, and/or impairments to fetal neural and skeletal development,” wrote Acella. “In elderly patients and patients with underlying cardiac disease toxic cardiac manifestations of hyperthyroidism may occur, such as cardiac pain, palpitations or cardiac arrhythmia.”So far, Acella says it has received four reports of "adverse events" for these lot numbers, possibly related to the recall.The products subject to recall are packed in 100-count bottles. Their lot numbers are M327E19-1 and M328F19-3. One woman, Cheryl Fleming, is personally taking voters to the polls, calling it her civic duty.Despite the wet weather in Virginia today, Fleming is behind the wheel, volunteering her time to voters."Pickin’ up folks and taking them to the polls, insuring that they have no excuse," says Fleming.There’s a reason why Fleming is doing this. Over two decades ago, she had a felony conviction on her record and was stripped of her right to vote.But in 2016, that right was restored. She was 54 years old when she cast her first ballot. Now, she's making it her mission to get people to the polls.One of Fleming’s passengers on Election Day was 70-year-old Marine veteran Joseph Crouch, who has a similar story to Fleming’s.“When you're an ex-felon, you feel isolated and locked out,” says Crouch.Crouch’s voting rights were restored four years ago, but this is his very first election. Instead, his team examined roughly a dozen episodes in which the president sought to exert his will on the probe, including by firing his FBI director and seeking the ouster of Mueller himself. Ultimately, Mueller declined to reach a conclusion on whether Trump had committed a crime, citing Justice Department policy against indicting a sitting president. He restricted it, and Biden never branded the decision “xenophobic.” Dozens of countries took similar steps to control travel from hot spots before or around the same time the U.S. did.The U.S. restrictions that took effect Feb. 2 continued to allow travel to the U.S. from China’s Hong Kong and Macao territories for months. The Associated Press reported that more than 8,000 Chinese and foreign nationals based in those territories entered the U.S. in the first three months after the travel restrictions were imposed.Additionally, more than 27,000 Americans returned from mainland China in the first month after the restrictions took effect.
