CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) — Those watching from the ground at Chula Vista High School were in awe as Navy parachutist made their way back to Earth. Those elsewhere in the South Bay were simply in awe, though unaware of the show. The sight of a fireball careening through the sky above Chula Vista Friday night sent nearby residents into confusion, lighting up social media. But it wasn't a UFO or secret government project. It was government related, though.US Navy Leap Frogs performed a demonstration jump for students and parents during Chula Vista's homecoming football game with Mar Vista High."Some people call it the fire in the sky. We make sure everyone knows, all the authorities know, but it's always a surprise for a lot of people," SBC Luke Howard-Vesci, with the Leap Frog team, said. "Once they figure out it was the Leap Frogs it's a lot of fun.""The ability to give the crowd a really unique experience every time is probably our greatest strength and the ability to also have a lot of outreach and be able to talk to a lot of different people is a great part of our job," Howard-Vesci added. 1125

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A South Bay teen was recently published in The New York Times, sharing a very personal account of what distance learning is like for him during the pandemic. Isaac Lozano is a senior at Bonita Vista High School, a school in the Sweetwater Union High School District. Lozano praises the district for starting the school year virtually because of COVID-19. Lozano told ABC 10News that sharing his reality wasn’t easy, but he now feels proud that he can be a voice for other students like him.The op-ed titled “Remote Learning Is Hard. Losing Family Members is Worse" was published on Aug. 13.In the article Lozano, a straight-A student, details his struggles with distance learning at home. He lives in a two-bedroom apartment, shares a room with his two brothers, and both parents are essential workers. Lozano also lives in the South Bay, one of the areas most impacted by COVID-19 in San Diego County.Lozano writes about not having a designated place to study, moving from room to room in his family’s apartment. He also highlights internet connectivity issues, but insists he has concerns about going back to school before it is safe to do so.Lozano gets personal in the article, sharing that COVID-19 hits close to home. His uncle died of the virus.Since the article was published, Lozano says he’s heard from people offering to help. He’s also heard from a publishing company, a literary magazine and even received an internship offer from a congressional candidate.Lozano will be applying to colleges in the fall and is interested in applying to Stanford, Yale, and UCLA. Christopher Krebs, the former head of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) who was fired on Tuesday evening by President Donald Trump for asserting that the 2020 election was the "most secure in American history" is continuing to defend his agency's work.Krebs, who has headed the CISA since the Trump administration established the agency in 2018, made headlines last week when his agency released a statement refuting Trump's claims that the 2020 election was beset by voter fraud. On Tuesday evening, Trump tweeted that Krebs had been "terminated" from his position, calling his statement "highly inaccurate."In the hours since his firing, Krebs has continued to defend the integrity of the 2020 election on his personal Twitter account. Just moments after Trump's announced Krebs' firing, he tweeted that he felt his administration had "done it right.""Honored to serve. We did it right. Defend Today, Secure Tomorrow. #Protect2020," he tweeted. 980

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Two San Diegans entered holy matrimony with a splash Friday, saying "I do" atop an Aquatica San Diego water slide — or perhaps, "I dooooooooo."Hugh Rothman and Ilene Engel met in September 2016 on an online dating website. On a cruise in the Bahamas three months later, the couple realized they were meant for each other while standing on top of the ship's water slide.Bringing their love full circle, Rothman and Engel felt it only appropriate to tie the knot with a splash at Aquatica San Diego on the park's opening day of the season.RELATED: Aquatica San Diego going green as it enters sixth season in Chula VistaWith Rothman's daughter, Erica, officiating and Engel's son, Marc, taking video, the two exchanged vows from six stories up on the park's "Tassie's Twister" water slide. Their love made official, the two hopped into a raft and took the plunge into marital bliss to the bottom of the slide where they sealed their marriage with a kiss.Congratulations you two! 1057
