Wednesday was the first full day of class for students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School since the Feb. 14 shooting killed 17 people at the Broward County school. FULL COVERAGE: Parkland school shootingSince returning to class on Feb. 28, the school had been on a modified schedule. Wednesday's classes ended at 2:40 p.m."The mood is like sad, emotional," Sebastian Benitez, a freshman at Stoneman Douglas said. "People are happy to see their friends but it’s still hard to think about all those lives that were lost.”U.S. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos was on campus meeting with students and teachers. The meeting might give her more insight as she continues her broader talks on how to prevent such a tragedy from happening again. DeVos has said she is open to allowing guns in schools but says the decision should be left to local communities.President Trump is in favor of arming teachers, saying that too many of these shootings happen in gun free zones.“A gun-free zone is, ‘Let’s go in and let’s attack, because bullets aren’t coming back at us,'” Trump said.Students at Stoneman Douglas have been vocal for change since the shooting last month. Their rallies were heard loudly and they have put pressure on lawmakers to enact gun reform during their visits to Tallahassee and during school walkouts. During a news conference, DeVos gave credit to the students for finding their voice and for taking interest in seeing what adults are going to do in response to the massacre. "People across the country in states and communities have addressed some of the concerns, some of the issues that have arisen here," DeVos said. "But we need to help elevate those opportunities and make sure people know there are solutions that can be engaged immediately."When pressed about the solutions she referenced, the secretary did not offer specifics. DeVos did however say she was looking forward to returning to the school in the future.  2033

WASHINGTON (AP) - U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein has won a fifth full term representing California after shaking off a challenge from a fellow Democrat who argued she hasn't been tough in confronting President Donald Trump.Feinstein defeated state Sen. Kevin de Leon.Voters first sent Feinstein to Washington in 1992. At 85, she is the oldest current U.S. senator. She faced a fellow Democrat because of California's system that sends the two candidates who win the most primary votes to the general election. The race failed to generate much excitement, with Democrats more focused on winning seats in the U.S. House than on a safe Senate seat.Feinstein argued that her experience and tenure in Washington made her the best person to serve California. 754

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration is seeking to deny asylum to migrants caught crossing the U.S.-Mexico border illegally.New regulations will block migrants from claiming asylum if they do not come to an official border crossing. They are intended to speed up rulings on asylum claims, instead of having migrants try to circumvent official crossings on the nearly 2,000-mile (3,200-kilometer) border. The move was spurred in part by caravans of Central American migrants walking toward the border. They are now about 600 miles (965 kilometers) away. President Donald Trump has vowed to stop them from entering the country.RELATED: Camp Pendleton Marines sent to U.S.-Mexico borderThe new rules are subject to a presidential proclamation expected Friday in which Trump will invoke the same justification he did for the travel ban. The new rules will almost certainly face court challenges. 903

WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. — A Pasco County photographer recruited her friends for a creative Halloween photoshoot involving pizza and pumpkins.Jennifer Sapountsis said the COVID-19 pandemic has been stressful for everyone."Trick-or-treating has changed a lot and people can't do as much stuff, so why not just try to bring smiles to people's faces and have fun with it," said Sapountsis. She asked her friends, Chris and Sarah Weed, to carve two pumpkins. The three then went to The Edison, a venue in Dade City. The couple was photographed wearing pumpkins on their head. They also ate some pizza."I feel like pizza and beer is an iconic thing for couples when they're chill. What do you want to do on a date night? Let's order some pizza, some beer, chill out," she said. The couple also dressed as ghosts and danced around. Sapountsis shared the photos on her Facebook page, Jennifer Alyssa Photography."I've gotten a lot of responses. I've seen other people try to do the same thing. I've seen a lot of people say that this is what I needed for my day....this was so funny, I want to do the same shoot next year," she said. She said she hopes the pictures make people laugh and smile. She also said her friend's husband was not crazy about the idea until he saw the finished product."He loves his wife, so he was okay doing it and going that extra step...there was so much laughter, so much fun. He was absolutely okay with it at the end. When he saw the pictures, both of them...they couldn't even believe it," said Sapountsis."My thought for this was just how can we make it fun and happy and show what date night could be if you took the extra step," she added. This story was first reported by Julie Salomone at WFTS in Tampa Bay, Florida. 1744

WASHINGTON D.C. (KGTV) -- Special counsel Robert Mueller's team issued more than 2,800 subpoenas and executed nearly 500 search warrants in its probe of Russian interference in the 2016 election and any potential involvement by President Donald Trump's campaign. That's according to Attorney General William Barr's letter to Congress on Sunday summarizing the findings. The special counsel employed 19 lawyers and was assisted by a team of 40 FBI agents, intelligence analysts, forensic accountants and other professional staff. The team interviewed approximately 500 witnesses.Evidence gathered in special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation "is not sufficient to establish" that President Donald Trump committed obstruction of justice.Special counsel: Trump campaign did not conspire with RussiaThat's according to Attorney General William Barr in a letter to Congress summarizing the finding of the Mueller probe.Barr says Mueller did not reach any conclusions in evaluating the president's conduct, leaving it to the Justice Department.Barr says he and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein reached the conclusion without considering constitutional questions regarding bringing criminal charges against a sitting president. 1238
