Chula Vista, CA (KGTV) - A Chula Vista City Council candidate running for District 4 says she is recovering after testing positive for COVID-19.Andrea Cardenas tells 10News she first started feeling symptoms on March 9th. She had a fever of 102, headaches, nausea and stomach pains. So, she called her doctor then went to seek medical care."When I went to Urgent Care, they asked me a few questions," she said. "They asked me if I had been in contact with someone who had tested positive and at the time I didn't know."She said because she is running for city council, she knew she was around many people on election night, but had no idea if anyone was carrying the coronavirus then."They had me do a chest x-ray where they accessed that I had pneumonia," she explained. "They said we could send you to the emergency room and have you tested but they explained the shortage of tests"She said her doctor explained that they were trying to hold the COVID-19 tests for the more vulnerable populations.Cardenas decided to just go home, self isolate, take the medication for pneumonia and hydrate."We have a social responsibility and a community responsibility to stay home," she said.Soon after, she was made aware that she had in fact been in contact with someone who contracted the coronavirus and she was tested immediately on the 16th.Her positive test results didn't come back until the 26th. "When I did test positive, I got a call from the county where they wanted to know my experience, all the symptoms that I had and where I had been," she said.Cardenas said she was fortunate to let the county officials know she had been home the entire time.She tells 10News has not left her home in 21 days and urges other who feel symptoms to immediately self-isolate and call their doctor."The moment that you feel any symptoms, just act as though you have it because it’s better to be safe than sorry," she said.According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, most people who have COVID-19 have mild symptoms and can recover at home without medical care.The County of San Diego urges people to call their doctor or 211 if they have symptoms. 2160

And with malware attacks, unencrypted data and third-party breaches, there will likely be more this holiday shopping season.“Cyber criminals are very well aware of the current situation and they are going to do everything they can to take advantage of it,” he said.According to the FBI, cyber crime has increased by 400% this year. But there are things consumers can do to protect themselves.Consider identity protection services. These companies can monitor many data sources, including credit files, social media and the dark web.Enable two-factor authentication for every online account you have that offers it, and call the three major credit services to freeze your credit.“I think that your credit should be regularly frozen except when you go about getting a new home mortgage or getting a car loan,” said Daswani. “You can always unfreeze it just before you do any of those activities.”Another vulnerability that Daswani says is important to pay attention to is your home router.“If you bought your home router and you just hooked it up and you didn't say change the password on it, then attackers can take advantage of those commonly used default passwords and hack into your home router,” he said. “And once they've done that, they can control anything and everything.”With increased remote working, learning and online shopping experts say a cyber pandemic could be the next catastrophic global event. CINCINNATI — A group of images meant to sell matching sets of Macy's festive family pajamas migrated onto Twitter this week, where they were presented as part of the company's holiday ad campaign and criticized for their depiction of the group's only black family. The images appear to depict four separate families: Two mixed-race, one all-white (with a fluctuating number of children, depending on the picture) and one all-black. The all-black family is the only one depicted with a single parent -- a mother with three sons. Some, including online activist Tariq Nasheed and Cincinnati Councilman Jeff Pastor, felt the picture played on stereotypes of black families, single mothers and what a Washington Post columnist once called "the dangerous myth of the missing black father." 807

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV)- A Hilltop High School alumnus who graduated in 1972 is more grateful for one of her teachers on the anniversary of D-Day. Kathy Cappos Hardy had Mr. Tom Rice as a United States Government teacher her senior year of high school. She tells 10News, “the way he enlivened it and related it to our lives made it truly something important to me”. Cappos Hardy has vivid memories of Rice and even says she pursued her career in education because of his impact he had on her. It wasn’t until about 20 years ago when Cappos Hardy realized her US Government teacher was also one of the thousands of troops who stormed the beaches of Normandy, France during World War II. 97-year-old Tom Rice is from Coronado. He was a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Division who landed in Normandy on June 6, 1944. On D-Day, Cappos Hardy wrote an editorial thanking her teacher for his service in and out of the classroom. Now, she’s not only hoping he sees it, but that she also gets a chance to tell him thank you when he returns from Normandy. “I hope he knows that there are a lot of us that admire him not only as a teacher but what he did prior to that.” Cappos Hardy tells 10News. 1203

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - This week Chula Vista Police shut down yet another illegal cannabis dispensary, an ongoing problem that's grown in recent years. While the city doesn't allow any cannabis sales at the moment, police believe there's roughly a dozen or more operating illegally in the city.“One of the challenges with unlicensed, illegal cannabis business is that they move and they change. The number of facilities is always changing, the location of facilities changes quite frequently," said Captain Phil Collum.Captain Collum says their most recent bust was one of the most egregious cases he's seen, from the number of cannabis products to security measures.“I was standing inside the facility and was shocked at what they had done," said Collum. "The windows were sealed shut with metal plating; the front door was actually, had a welded security grate that was locked closed, it had pretty much sealed off any emergency evacuation routes to this facility.”He says if there were a fire or sudden emergency in the building people could have been trapped. Captain Collum said they were alerted to the illegal operation by neighbor complaints. "It’s so important that community contact us and let us know where they believe an illegal cannabis for marijuana business might be located.”Chula Vista PD partnered with Chula Vista's Office of the City Attorney and the Code Enforcement Department to serve a civil abatement warrant for the illegal cannabis dispensary. “I’m not frustrated with the process, what’s frustrating quite honestly is people are taking advantage of our community.”Captain Collum urges the public to continue notifying authorities when they spot illegal businesses popping up in the city. 1731
