"We hope that the Haitian people, with the help of the international community, will overcome the difficulties, rebuild their homes and achieve self-reliance at an early date."The new Chinese contribution follows a Jan. 13 decision of the Red Society of China to donate one million U.S. dollars in cash to Haiti, he said. "On Jan. 15, the Chinese government announced its decision to provide 30 million yuan (about 4.4 million U.S. dollars) worth of humanitarian emergency supplies to Haiti."The first charter plane loaded with these supplies arrived in Haiti on Jan. 17, bringing to the local people medicine, tents, portable emergency lights, water purification equipment, food, drinking water and clothes, he said. "The second plane, which was delayed due to limited capacity of the Haitian airport, will arrive on Jan. 26."Since Jan. 13, the 60-member emergency rescue team sent by the Chinese government has fully engaged in disaster relief in the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince, he said. "The team has carried out effective search and rescue operations at the headquarters of MINUSTAH (the UN Stabilization Mission in Haiti), the prime minister's palace and other places, with a number of bodies found, including those of Special Representative Hedi Annabi of MINUSTAH and other UN staff.""The medical team of the Chinese rescue team are providing medical support for several hundred local people everyday," he said. "At this very moment, the Chinese international rescue team is still working at this forefront of disaster relief in Haiti and doing its utmost to help more people affected by the earthquake."Since the earthquake struck Haiti on Jan. 12, the international community has worked in solidarity to offer a helping hand to the Haitian people and government, he said. TAIYUAN, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- Tens of thousands of people in north China's Shanxi Province flooded onto the streets Saturday afternoon and stayed until Sunday morning after earthquake rumors spread in the coal-rich region recently hit by a 4.8-magnitude quake.Major streets, parks and squares in cities like Jinzhong, Luliang, Changzhi, Yangquan and Taiyuan filled with anxious people and private cars. In rural areas, many villagers went out in the open air with their personal property, such as TVs.The Shanxi Provincial Seismological Bureau issued an urgent statement Sunday morning, asking residents to keep calm and not to believe in the quake rumor."According to the quake forecast regulation, only the provincial government can release quake forecast information. Other organizations and individuals are not authorized to do so," the statement said.The bureau is using TV, radio, Internet and text messages to clarify the situation and calm the residents.Meanwhile, local police are investigating the incident and trying to find out the source of the rumor.On Jan. 24, a 4.8-magnitude quake struck Yuncheng City in Shanxi.

BEIJING, March 20 (Xinhua) -- The threat of inflation to China's economy is less worrisome compared with asset bubble, economists said Saturday at the China Development Forum 2010.China's economy is facing a new round of growth in the coming two years, but the risks of inflation and asset bubble remain, said Fan Gang, secretary general of the China Reform Foundation.Compared with inflation, tackling asset bubble is of greater importance because asset bubble, as one of the causes for this round of global financial crisis, is more dangerous, Fan said. He expected the country's economy to grow 8 to 9 percent this year in a "normal growth."Growth in China's property prices is accelerating and approaching an alarming level, said Nomura Holdings Inc. chairman Junichi Ujiie.Despite government measures to curb property prices, China's property market grew at its fastest pace in 20 months in February, with housing prices in 70 major cities rising 10.7 percent from a year ago.
