They ran the table. And gold was waiting for them at the end.Team USA finished one of the most unlikely runs in recent Olympic memory with a 10-7 win over Sweden in the men's curling gold medal match at the 2018 Pyeongchang Games, a feat immediately dubbed the "Miracurl on Ice."The squad turned around a 2-4 start to round-robin play with five straight wins in their final five curling matches, including Saturday's final.PHOTOS:?American curlers stun the world, take home gold medalThat final match was a 5-5 tie entering the eighth end (much like a baseball inning) with Team USA having the final shot and a chance at the equivalent of a grand slam home run. Skipper John Shuster threaded the needle for a perfect shot to take two Sweden stones out of the scoring range and give America five scoring stones, creating a virtually insurmountable 10-5 lead.Shuster's journey of Olympic bronze in 2006, followed by failure in 2010 and 2014 and eventual removal from the U.S. team, was one of high emotion. It was his perfect-when-it-had-to-be shot that defeated Canada in the preliminaries and kept America alive, followed by his cathartic tears in an interview with?NBC Sports.Team USA's Matt Hamilton also grew into a bit of a cult star with his mustacheoed presence that helped draw the viral support for this team of everyone from Aaron Rodgers...Win. #powerofthestash https://t.co/UTLIKPaKpA— Aaron Rodgers (@AaronRodgers12) February 24, 2018 1499

They have become the Holy Grail of cleaning supplies this pandemic year: Lysol and Clorox wipes. Trying to find them is often an exercise in futility.Throw in Windex spray, Scrubbing Bubbles shower cleaner, and Formula 409, and they round out the list of popular disinfecting products that are nearly impossible to find in stores these days.Coleman Henderson, owner of a house cleaning company, said he often has to tell homeowners he can't come out that week because of disinfectant shortages."I have to postpone jobs because I can't get cleaning supplies." Henderson said. You can sometimes find these items for sale on Amazon (from third-party sellers) or eBay, but you may have to pay two to three times the retail price, if you can find them at all."People are really struggling right now, " said Grace Brombach, of the consumer watchdog group U.S. PIRG. "The last thing that they need to worry about is going online and finding the products that they really need to keep themselves safe at ridiculous prices."National brands remain in short supplyStan Beck, owner of a hardware store, said that even though national brands like Windex or Johnson are hard to find, off-brand products are often just as good."This is a basic product, like Windex, just a different brand," he said, pointing to a shelf of Brillo window cleaner in his store. Brillo? Yes, they make window cleaner, and he says it works as well as Windex. Some items, though, are in such short supply that even generic versions are hard to find. For instance, toilet paper is now plentiful, but paper towel supplies remain tight. Why? A CNN report says manufacturers worked overtime all summer to produce toilet paper, but did not boost paper towel production to the same extent. The result?Grocery stores now have enough toilet paper (though they are limiting sales again), but not enough Bounty or Scott paper towels. What you can doKaren Mallory is the manager of a Do-it Center. She has a shelf stocked with cleaning products that looks like a throwback to 2018.During our visit, she had Windex, Mr Clean, Spic n' Span, even a collection of N95 face masks, something that was impossible to find for five months.Mallory said many people don't realize that local hardware stores often have a much better selection than grocery or big box stores because of their group buying power, and the fact that fewer shoppers visit them for cleaning items. She said she can find almost anything, except those Holy Grail items: name-brand disinfecting wipes."We've tried ordering Lysol wipes," she said. "Absolutely. We're trying to keep up on what supplies we can. Some things are just not available."It's the same situation at grocery stores like Kroger. The spokeswoman for the nation's largest grocery chain, Kroger, Erin Rolfes said "our suppliers are continuing to work extra hours to keep up with the ongoing customer demand," but said shoppers buy out wipes and disinfectants the moment they are put on the shelves. So what can you do?Visit your grocery store midweek, first thing in the morning, when those wipes and other products are put out.Purchase store brands, or off brands, when you find them, especially when it comes to wipes and toilet cleaners.Visit your local hardware store, and get to know the manager. Some will hold products for you if you ask.Check Amazon frequently. But U.S. PIRG says resist the urge to pay double or triple the price on eBay, because that encourages sellers to charge even more. And report gouging to Amazon customer service. That way, you don't waste your money.___________________________Don't Waste Your Money" is a registered trademark of Scripps Media, Inc. This is completely unacceptable, disappointing, and appalling. The DNC shared the procedural purpose of my remarks to media WELL in advance. @NBC knew what was going to happen & that it was routine. How does a headline that malicious & misleading happen w/ that prior knowledge?— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) August 19, 2020 341

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (KGTV) -- After gunning down a group of workers standing at the door at Borderline Bar & Grill country music bar, Ian David Long paused a moment to post a chilling message on social media before resuming his killing spree."It's too bad I won't get to see all the illogical and pathetic reasons people will put in my mouth as to why I did it. Fact is I had no reason to do it, and I just thought... f***it, life is boring so why not?," Long posted.According to ABC News, citing law enforcement sources and documents, Long published his message then proceeded to shoot victims on the dance floor.  Three minutes later, the former United States Marine Corps machine gunner appeared to taunt the public in a follow-up post."I hope people call me insane (two smiley face emoji)...wouldn't that just be a big ball of irony? Yeah... I'm insane, but the only thing you people do after these shootings is 'hopes and prayers'... or 'keep you in my thoughts'... every time... and wonder why these keep happening... (two more smiley face emoji)," Long posted at 11:27 p.m Wednesday. It's unclear which social media platforms he used.Officials found a Glock .45-caliber handgun at the scene that was purchased legally. The weapon usually holds 10 rounds, plus one in the chamber, but the gunman used an extended magazine in this shooting, Ventura County Sheriff Geoff Dean said.Officials have not commented on whether mental illness was a factor in the massacre of the 12 people nor determined the shooter's motive. In April, officers responded to a disturbance at Long's home, and he was somewhat irate and acting irrationally, Dean said. A mental health specialist met with him and ultimately decided not to detain him under laws pertaining to his mental health.Dean said that a crisis team that visited Long felt the military veteran might be suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.Investigators are looking into whether the gunman believed his former girlfriend would be at the bar, ABC News reported.THOUSAND OAKS MASS SHOOTING: 2084

Thousands of Central American migrants fleeing poverty and violence packed a bridge connecting Guatemala and Mexico in sweltering heat Saturday as part of a politically charged, U.S.-bound caravan. At one point, several dozen migrants trying to make their way north sang the Honduran national anthem on the edge of the muddy Suchiate River between Tecun Uman, Guatemala, and Tapachula, Mexico.Their journey continued one day after defiant caravan members rushed passed border gates only to be stopped by rows of Mexican riot police who dispersed tear gas and smoke canisters into the crowds. The slow procession north has led President Donald Trump to threaten to cut aid to Central American nations and to send troops to the U.S. border if Mexico failed to stop the surge."Our message is we're not criminals," Honduran migrant Orlean Herrera said. "We're coming over here because we need a better life. That's why we're here." 933
