RAMONA, Calif. (KGTV) — Two people were killed and a third person was seriously hurt in a head-on collision in Ramona on Wednesday.CHP said at about 12:15 p.m., a 56-year-old woman was driving a 2016 Ford Focus northbound on Mussey Grade Road, south of Mahogany Ranch Rd., at a high rate of speed. At the same time, an unidentified woman was driving a 2017 Subaru Impreza southbound on the same road.For reasons that are unclear, CHP said the driver of the Focus lost control of her vehicle and veered into the opposite lane, colliding head-on with the Impreza.The driver of the Focus and a male passenger in the Impreza died at the scene, CHP said. The driver of the Subaru was taken to Palomar Medical Center with major injuries.CHP says they believe both occupants in the Subaru were wearing a seat belt, but the driver of the Ford was not at the time of the crash.It's unclear whether alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash. 943

President Donald Trump told the top White House lawyer in April that he wanted to order federal prosecutions of Hillary Clinton and James Comey, The New York Times reported Tuesday.The Times report, citing two people familiar with the conversation, said recently departed White House counsel Don McGahn told Trump in response that he could not compel the Justice Department to prosecute people and even requesting an investigation could be a step too far. The Times said McGahn went on to have White House lawyers list the consequences of such a demand for Trump.The Times said it was unclear if Trump read the memo about the consequences of a president having the Justice Department investigate his opponents and that it was also unclear what Trump wanted the prosecutions to cover.Trump has long called for legal action against Clinton, his Democratic rival in 2016, over her email practices as secretary of state, and he has alleged that Comey, who he fired as FBI director last year, leaked classified information.Attorney William Burck told CNN that McGahn would not comment on legal advice he had given to the President."Like any client, the President is entitled to confidentiality," Burck said. "Mr. McGahn would point out, though, that the President never, to his knowledge, ordered that anyone prosecute Hillary Clinton or James Comey."McGahn left the White House in October, a long-planned departure that followed a tenure marked in part by friction with the President. (KGTV) — A local mother said her son and another teenager were attacked during a Black Lives Matter protest in Ramona.Heidi, who wanted to use only her first name, said her son Miguel had been peacefully protesting during the first week of June. Miguel recently graduated from high school. “I feel like our new generation is going to change something in the future,” he said.During the protest on June 5 in Ramona, he and his mother said men attacked him and his friend. She said the attack was unprovoked. RELATED: Man says he was sucker punched at Imperial Beach protestIn video sent to ABC 10News, the unidentified man yelled, “I’m from Ramona!” He then punches a 16-year-old protester. Miguel said he moved his friend out of the way and that’s when the same man attacked him.“He hits me, I try to grab him so he won’t go away,” Miguel said. “Next thing… I get hit in the back. I was unconscious after that.”Heidi said the second hit came from a different man. She was at home when the Sheriff’s Department called her. “As a mother, it was very heartbreaking,” Heidi said.This is the second attack on protesters caught on camera that ABC 10News has covered recently. On June 7 in Imperial Beach, a man sucker-punched Marcus Boyd, a local businessman.Heidi said Miguel went to Pomerado Hospital with a concussion, sprained neck, and jaw. She is disappointed with where the Sheriff’s investigation stands. “Our officer was very, very nice. Are they doing all we think they should do? No.” Heidi said.Miguel plans to go to EMT school and eventually become a law enforcement officer. He said despite being attacked, he would still protest for causes he believes in.“I don't want my son to get hurt. but that being said, I'm not raising a man that's going to be afraid to voice his freedom of speech and liberty,” Heidi said.A Sheriff’s spokesperson told ABC 10News: “Deputies from the Ramona Sheriff’s Substation took a report about this incident. This is being investigated as a battery. As this is an open and active investigation, we can’t go into a lot of details to avoid jeopardizing the outcome of the case.” 2137

Residents in states hit by Hurricane Laura continue the long recovery to restoring their homes and businesses destroyed in the Category 4 storm.The death toll from Hurricane Laura has risen to 19 people across Louisiana and Texas.Power and water outages were widely reported in the hardest-hit areas, and it is expected to take weeks before the outages are restored.One of the places hit by the storm was Orange, Texas. Strong winds destroyed buildings, downed power lines and uprooted trees.Resident Robert Matthews is an employee at Mowers, Tractors Inc. in Orange.
