Jefferson County Judge Jeff Branick confirmed that thousands of his county's residents remain evacuated on Thursday following a fire and explosion at an industrial plant Port Neches, Texas. The fire remained active on Thursday, one day after a pair of explosions at the plant rocked the town of Port Neches. The explosions could be felt from up to 30 miles away, and blew out windows near the plant. Branick said that the situation was improving on Thursday, but that "doesn't mean we shouldn't exercise great caution."A 4-mile radius was evacuated from the plant amid fears of further explosions. Branick told reporters on Thursday that officials plan to visit the site of the plant on Friday as residents spent a second night forced from their homes. Branick said that the fire at the plant wasn't being controlled, but officials were working to contain the inferno. "The firefighters are doing an incredible job for their community," Branick told reporters. Despite the size and scope of the explosions, only three people suffered injuries, and no fatalities were reported.Officials continue to monitor the air quality near the plant. The real-time air monitoring results continue to show no actionable levels above state and federal regulatory guidelines, officials said. TPC Group operates the manufacturing plant. The plant processes C4 hydrocarbons, producing butadiene and raffinate and stores MTBE. The incident began at a tank with finished butadiene. In the Tennessee community hardest hit by devastating tornadoes, the few houses still standing have become beacons of hope. One of those belongs to Amy and Darrell Jennings. The Jennings have welcomed friends and neighbors into their house in Putnam County and are trying to help survivors recover some of their belongings from the rubble. A tornado tore a 2-mile-long path through the county early Tuesday, killing 18 people, including five children under 13. The tornado was one of at least two that swept through the state Tuesday, killing at least 24 people all together. 588

JPMorgan Chase, which is the parent company of Chase Bank, announced this week plans to make it easier for those with criminal pasts to be considered for employment with the company. As part of JPMorgan Chase's new initiative, the company will no longer ask employees to reveal if they have a criminal past during the application process. The company said this initiative allows for those with criminal backgrounds to receive the same consideration as any other applicant, when their background has no bearing on job requirements.The company said that in 2018, the company hired 2,100 people with criminal backgrounds, which represented 10 percent of all new hires for the year. JPMorgan Chase said those hired generally had been charged with low level offenses such as disorderly conduct, personal drug possession and DUI. These applicants were hired for positions in entry-levels jobs such as transaction processing, and lending and account servicing.¡°Business has a responsibility to partner with policy, business and community leaders to create an economy that works for more people.
