FALLBROOK (CNS) - A 28-year-old man was busted in Fallbrook for agreeing to purchase alcohol for a minor, authorities said Saturday.The man was arrested Friday night in a so-called "Shoulder Tap" operation and was the only one out of 20 adults asked by a minor decoy working with deputies who agreed to purchase alcohol for the teenager, according to Sgt. Nancy Blanco of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.The suspect was arrested on suspicion of furnishing alcohol to a minor, which is a misdemeanor, she said.Two men, ages 24 and 25, who were with the suspect were also taken into custody for parole and probation violations, Blanco said.The minors also tried to purchase alcohol from retailers at five separate locations, but none of the locations sold alcohol to the decoy, she said. 803

ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) - A brush fire broke out in Escondido’s Kit Carson Park Friday, sending a plume of smoke above the area. The flames started just before noon in a riverbed of the park at 3333 Bear Valley Parkway near Westfield North County mall, Escondido Fire reported. At least 10 engines and a firefighting helicopter responded to the scene to put out the fire in brush and trees. No structures were threatened because winds were blowing the flames away from nearby homes.By 2 p.m., the fire's forward rate of progress was stopped with two acres burned and 80 percent containment.San Pasqual High and LR Green elementary schools were briefly put on lockdown to safely keep students inside during the firefighting efforts.The North County Transit District rerouted its BREEZE route 350 to the mall because police and fire personnel blocked its route for firefighting efforts. (KGTV) - A man has been arrested in connection with the Fallsbrea fire that broke out in Fallbrook on Sunday, according to the San Diego Sheriff's department.The brush fire started in the area of Ramona Drive and Pala Road around 12:15 p.m.When a deputy arrived on scene to investigate the smoke, the deputy saw a white man walking away from what appeared to be the point of origin of the fire, a press release states. The man was identified as 34-year-old Brad Arands.Arands was disheveled and his behavior was suspicious, deputies said. Arands was detained until the fire was controlled and a further investigation could be conducted.The fire burned approximately five acres and threatened numerous homes. One outbuilding was destroyed. The fire was 100 percent contained by about 4 p.m. Arands was arrested on suspicion of felony arson and booked at the Vista Detention Facility.   950

Ever since their older brother competed in the Scripps National Spelling Bee years ago, twin brothers Garrett and Pierce Bryner have dreamed of making it to the bee — together.This year, they’ll see that dream become reality. “It’s kind of historical, I guess you’d say,” said Garrett, who made it to the national bee — without his brother — last year.Previously, twins would never have been able to make it to the bee together, as one would have always beaten the other out. But thanks to new qualifying rules put in place this year which incorporate a point system, two sets of twins are now going to be on the national stage for the first time in the spelling bee's 91-year history: the Bryner twins, and another set of twins from Mississippi.Garrett’s brother Pierce will become the third sibling in the Bryner family to attend the bee.Their mom, Liz Bryner, who has shepherded her kids through her share of bees, says that while the two will be nervous, for the parents, its on a whole other level.“I think nothing compared to the Bee in terms of the stress level,” Liz said from her home in Utah. “If you look around at the parents they’re often more nervous than the kids.
