Mitt Romney of Utah and Chuck Grassley of Iowa for clues to whether they will support any effort to approve a Supreme Court justice before November's election. VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A man who detained two juveniles before taking their skateboards while posing as a sheriff’s deputy was sentenced Monday.  Abraham Joseph Nava, 24, was sentenced to three years of formal probation after pleading guilty in July to felony false imprisonment.In a separate case, Nava also admitted to calling in a false report of a bomb threat. Nava was given credit for 149 days in custody.RELATED: Guilty plea from man who posed as deputy, detained juveniles  He will have to comply with counseling conditions as required by the probation department, including a forensic examination to help determine what course of treatment to take, said Deputy District Attorney Peter Estes.Nava was arrested on June 14, several days after the sheriff’s department was contacted about a suspect claiming to be an undercover deputy.During interviews with several employees in the Main Street area of Vista, investigators learned that the suspect passed out fake business cards and was interacting with juveniles.Investigators also learned that the two juveniles were detained and had their skateboards taken. After identifying Nava as the suspect, investigators obtained a warrant to search his home where they discovered several pieces of San Diego County Sheriff’s Department uniform items, including badges.A box of fraudulent business cards was also found. WASHINGTON (AP) — A military whistleblower says federal officials sought some unusual crowd control devices — including one that’s been called a “heat ray” — to deal with protesters outside the White House on the June day that law enforcement forcibly cleared Lafayette Square. National Guard Maj. Adam DeMarco says the Defense Department’s lead military police officer for the National Capital Region sent an email asking if the D.C. National Guard possessed a long-range acoustic device — used to transmit loud noises — or an “Active Denial System," the so-called heat ray. WARNER SPRINGS, Calif. (KGTV) - Lightning from Thursday’s monsoonal storms sparked a brush fire burning in East San Diego County near Warner Springs. The fire started about 3:45 p.m. at the Hot Springs Lookout on Hot Springs Mountain at the Los Coyotes Reservation, Cal Fire reported.
