HOUSTON (AP) — A federal judge has rejected a last-ditch Republican effort to invalidate nearly 127,000 votes in Houston. U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen’s ruling Monday concerned ballots cast at drive-thru polling centers that were established during the pandemic. The judge's decision to hear arguments on the brink of Election Day drew concern from voting rights activists, and came after the Texas Supreme Court rejected a nearly identical challenge over the weekend.The lawsuit was brought by conservative Texas activists who have railed against expanded voting access in Harris County. Hanen said the opponents to drive-thru centers — who were represented by former Harris County GOP Chairman Jared Woodfill— had no standing to bring a lawsuit. He added that people had already voted and that conservative activists had months to bring a challenge sooner.But Hanen still expressed doubts about whether Texas law allowed anyone to vote from their car, even in a pandemic.“If I were voting tomorrow, I would not vote in a drive-thru just out of my concern as to whether that’s legal or not,” Hanen said.Another 20,000 or more voters were expected to use drive-thru polling locations Tuesday, said Harris County Clerk Chris Hollins, the county’s top elections official. (KGTV) - A recent break to a sewage pipe south of the U.S.-Mexico border is allowing sewage to flow freely into the Tijuana River Valley and Pacific Ocean, officials say.The International Boundary and Water Commission (IBWC) said they were alerted to the break in the Tijuana sewage pipe by Mexico authorities recently. The pipe broke Dec. 7, according to Imperial Beach Mayor Serge Dedina, though the city was notified Tuesday.IBWC officials said Wednesday, "CESPT (Tijuana Water Utility) has informed us through the Mexican Section that a rupture was discovered yesterday on the Colector Poniente in Southeast Tijuana. This rupture caused the soil above the pipe to collapse in an auto junkyard. Several sinkholes were discovered yesterday by the workers at the property and notified CESPT who then diverted the flows upstream to a stormwater collector which drains to the Tijuana River. "The IBWC estimated the flow of sewage into the Tijuana River to be at 300 liters per second, or approximately 7 millions gallons per day. Lewis says for those who are relocating, COVID-19 wariness may prevent potential buyers from seeing a property in person. Plus, traveling can be difficult right now."A lot of times, some of them we’re videoing the home for them and some of them are just looking at the pictures and submitting blind offers and just hoping, trusting us to give them a little bit of guidance and also making sure the inspections and things are in line to offer that level of protection," said Lewis.Experts say, when buying virtually, a good home inspection is a must. "It should catch most everything. Now remember, a home inspection is a visual inspection. We’re not allowed to take siding off a house, we see trim damage then that's what we see. We can’t take a look between that wall," said Donny Williams, the Director of Business Development and Marketing for All Atlanta AmeriSpec.Overall, he doesn't recommend buying a home without going inside it first, but he and many other inspectors at his company are seeing it more often now.
