Aggressive driving, drunk driving or distracted driving?They're all bad, but new information out on Thursday shows when it comes to risky behavior on the road, distracted driving now tops the list. Nearly nine out of 10 drivers believe it's on the rise. But experts say there are things you can do about it.From reaching for something to the increasing danger of technology, it has become easier to become distracted while driving. In a study out Thursday, the AAA Foundation found drivers talking on a cellphone are up to four times more likely to crash than those not using a cellphone. Those who text and drive are eight times more likely.Mark Stolberg, the Vice President of training at Masterdrive, said many of us look at distractions as small interruptions we can stop at any time.“The problem with it is the traffic situation can become threatening very quickly,” said Stolberg. “So even a little distraction is very dangerous.”“So if you have to check something else, if you have to check the mirror, if you have to check your navigation right, check that then get back focused on driving," Stolberg added. "Get right back focused on driving.”Stolberg demonstrated that when a text message is received, drivers have a tendency to take their eyes off the road. WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) — Canadian fashion mogul Peter Nygard has been arrested in Winnipeg. Court records show Nygard, 79, was arrested under the Extradition Act and is set to appear in a Winnipeg courtroom this afternoon.According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, Nygard faces a nine-count indictment in the United States on racketeering, sex trafficking, and related crimes.Manhattan federal prosecutors stated Nygard’s charges relate to a “decades-long pattern of criminal conduct involving at least dozens of victims in the United States, the Bahamas, and Canada, among other locations.”Earlier this year, U.S. federal authorities raided the Manhattan headquarters of the Canadian fashion mogul in February. This search came amid claims he trafficked and sexually assaulted dozens of teenage girls and women.The FBI searched the designer’s Times Square offices less than two weeks after 10 women filed a lawsuit accusing Nygard of enticing young and impoverished women to his estate in the Bahamas with cash and promises of modeling opportunities.According to prosecutors, from 1995 to 2020, Nygard used his international fashion brand to recruit and pay for sex with the victims, who were put on the payroll as “models” or “assistants.”Prosecutors said Nygard allegedly referred to the victims as his “girlfriends,” which required them to travel and stay with him at his palatial properties in California, the Bahamas, and Canada.According to the press release, Nygard allegedly hosted so-called “Pamper Parties,” named for their buffet, open bar, and spa treatments, to recruit more girls and young women.According to prosecutors, he allegedly would use a “girlfriend” or employee to scout out a chosen victim — who would then be forced into sexual activity and paid in cash.Prosecutors said Nygard also is accused of hosting sexual “swaps” with other friends and business associates, who would bring a “date” to trade for sex with one of his “girlfriends.”Nygard kept the “girlfriends” under constant surveillance, insisting they needed his permission to leave the properties, prosecutors said.According to the AP, several of Nygard’s victims claim they were 14 or 15 years old when the fashion mogul gave them alcohol or drugs and then raped them. 2300

What you drive impacts what you breathe.With all kinds of vehicles emitting all kinds of pollutants into our air, many Americans are now suffering from related health problems.“What I feel is tightness all around my chest,” said Karen Jakpor ,M.D., MPH. “Pretend you had to breathe through a straw.”Jakpor lives in California’s Inland Empire, an area east of Los Angeles, that has some of the worst air pollution in the country.After years of breathing in pollutants, Jakpor developed asthma so severe that she lost her clinical career.“That was very devastating to me when that first happened,” she said.Jakpor has since made a career change and is now advocating with the American Lung Association with a goal of getting all internal combustion engines off the road within the next three decades.“There’s so many people who are affected and people dying and yet they don’t even know that air pollution played a role in their medical condition,” Jakpor said.In its new report titled “Road to Clean Air,” the American Lung Association encourages a nationwide shift to electric vehicles by 2050.“Transportation is driving the unhealthy air that affects half of all Americans,” said William Barrett, lead author of this report.He predicts a transition to zero emission technology, for all transportation across America, could save countless lives and billions of dollars.“In the year 2050 alone, we could generate billion worth of public health benefits and approximately 3 billion worth of climate change benefits,” Barrett said.The move to reduce the use of fossil fuels has been an ongoing issue for decades.Now, however, health experts say the need for change is becoming more urgent each day.“Hopefully this report helps move the needle,” said Meredith McCormack, M.D., MHS, associate professor of medicine at John Hopkins University.She says prolonged exposure to car exhaust fumes can cause health issues ranging from heart attacks to lung cancer.To make a national changeover to electric vehicles a reality, McCormack says communities need help from leaders at local, state and federal levels.“For all of us as individuals, we also have our own ability to impact the future,” she said.A future of battery powered cars, however, does come at a cost.For example, a 2020 Toyota Prius Prime plug-in hybrid costs about ,000 more than a 2020 Toyota Corolla with a four-cylinder engine. WINTER PARK, Fla. (AP) — Police say a man punched and kicked a 70-year-old man who'd asked him to practice social distancing inside a central Florida gas station. An arrest report says 24-year-old Rovester Ingram wasn't wearing a mask so the older man asked him to back away on Sept. 8. The man then paid for his items and left the store. Police say Ingram followed him outside and began punching and kicking him. The man went back inside. But Ingram followed him and dragged him back out. Police confirmed the incident through witnesses and surveillance video. They arrested Ingram. 591

WISCONSIN — A 19-year-old man has been charged with two felonies after police say he gave a gun to Kyle Rittenhouse the night two protesters were killed in Kenosha.Prosecutors say Dominick Black purchased the weapon from the Ladysmith Ace Home Center using money he received from 17-year-old Rittenhouse. Police say Black bought the weapon for Rittenhouse because he wasn't 18-years-old yet and couldn't do it himself.Black and Rittenhouse agreed that the rifle would be stored at Black's stepdad's house since Rittenhouse did not have an Illinois Firearm Owner Identification card, according to the criminal complaint. Black's stepdad lives in Kenosha.On Aug. 23, Jacob Blake was shot in the back several times by Kenosha police. The following days were then full of protests and unrest in Kenosha.According to the criminal complaint, on Aug. 25, Rittenhouse and Black volunteered to protect the Car Source located on Sheridan Road. The two met at Black's stepdad's house where Black gave Rittenhouse the gun he had purchased, a Smith & Wesson M&P 15 rifle.Around 11:49 p.m. that night, Rittenhouse used the gun to allegedly shoot and kill two individuals, Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber.
