The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo declared an outbreak of Ebola hemorrhagic fever, a rare and deadly disease, on Tuesday, the World Health Organization reported. The National Weather Service is projecting Southern Arizona's fire season to be more active than normal."There's leftover dry fuels from last year, and there's newly formed fine fuels," Warning Coordination Meteorologist Ken Drozd said.Above average daytime high temperatures, combined with storm systems bringing wind but no rain, and very dry conditions, are some of the reasons why the NWS projects May and June to have the more fire activity than normal.Due to a wet February, there is now more dry fuel in the region, according to Drozd. Sometimes, significant rain events leading into fire season can delay or shorten it, but that wasn't the case this year."Those new grasses that greened up from that precipitation event have now dried out again, due to the warm temperatures we've experienced lately," Drozd said."The hotter you get, the more you're going to dry things out. It just keeps things dried out unless you get some intermediate rain that'll come in, and again, there's none in the forecast right now."Last year, fires ripped through Southern Arizona from April to July, blackening landscapes and destroying homes in their paths. The owl rescued from the Rockefeller Christmas tree is being memorialized by Frontier Airlines.On Tuesday, the airline company announced that the northern saw-whet owl, which was discovered in the Rockefeller Christmas tree last month, will be featured on the tail of their new Airbus A320neo aircraft.The aircraft is set to roll out sometime in 2021.“We’re always looking for new ideas for our plane tails, and when we heard the story of Rocky, we thought it entirely befitting that this intrepid little owl is honored on one of our tails,” said Tyri Squyres, vice president of marketing, Frontier Airlines in a press release. “Rocky will be remembered for years to come with her very special story enjoyed by thousands of travelers who fly on ‘Rocky the Owl.’”Rocky will join more than 100 other animals that are featured on tails in the Frontier fleet, the company said.After being rescued from the Christmas tree, Rocky was released back into the wild last month. 975

The man suspected of killing and wounding multiple people at Strasbourg's famed Christmas market was killed by French police, following a shoot-out not far from the scene of Tuesday's attack.Authorities announced Friday a fourth person had died as a result of being shot by the suspect, and 12 others are wounded.Cherif Chekatt, the 29-year old suspect, was shot dead on Thursday evening, two days after he first disappeared sparking a massive manhunt involving hundreds of police officers, soldiers and anti-terror specialists from three European countries.French Interior Minister Christophe Castaner said police recognized a man who looked like Chekatt walking on the street in Strasbourg's Neudorf district on Thursday night and approached him. He opened fire on officers when they tried to question him, he said.Police returned fire, killing the suspect, Castaner said."As I am speaking to you, I am thinking about the victims and the wounded. I am thinking of those close to them. I am thinking of Strasbourg and France that was hit by this terrible attack," Castaner said.On Thursday, Strasbourg police said the death toll from the attack had risen to three, after one person succumbed to their injuries.
