(KGTV) — A South Bay mother was alarmed to find a man standing over her daughter's bed early Saturday.Police say the mom discovered the strange man just after 6:30 a.m. standing over her 10-year-old daughter as she slept at their home on Madison Ave. The man ran past the mom and out the back door, running south on Madison Ave., police added.The woman's daughter was not harmed. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) — Surveillance video caught the moment a driver caused a fiery chain-reaction crash in a South Bay neighborhood.Chula Vista Police said five cars were involved in the crash at East Paisley Street and Monserate Avenue just after 6 p.m. Thursday. Five people were taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.The crash started when a black truck hit a car, sending that vehicle into a parked car. The suspect of the black truck kept driving, hitting another car parked in a driveway that was being worked on by two people, knocking them unconscious. That car was sent into a nearby RV, injuring another person.Video from a resident's surveillance camera showed the truck send one man flying and the car into a concrete pillar, as it overturns and explodes into flames."I opened the door, and there was the car, it was on fire," said resident Priscilla Ramirez. "I'm still shaking from everything."Smoke and flames filled Ramirez's yard."I couldn't see my house, smoke and fire, smoke and fire all over my yard, couldn't see anything," Ramirez's brother, Adrian, said. "[Both men] were slurring and they were scared."The two suspects in the truck fled the scene, before later turning themselves in and receiving treatment for injuries at a hospital.The two suspects were arrested, but 10News is working to confirm what charges were filed against the pair. Chopped romaine lettuce grown in the Yuma, Arizona, area is to blame for a multistate E. coli outbreak, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Friday."At this time, no common grower, supplier, distributor, or brand has been identified," the CDC said.So far 35 cases of E. coli illness in 11 states have been reported and linked to the outbreak. The earliest symptoms began on March 22. Twenty-two of the ill individuals have been hospitalized. Three of those patients developed a type of kidney failure associated with an E. coli illness called hemolytic uremic syndrome, which can be life-threatening.Symptoms of E. coli typically begin two to eight days after consuming the bacteria, although most patients become ill three or four days after consumption. Symptoms include severe stomach cramps, diarrhea and vomiting. Most people recover in five to seven days. Those most at risk for E. coli illness include the very young, the very old and individuals with compromised immune systems.Health officials warned the public to stay away from chopped romaine lettuce. "Consumers anywhere in the United States who have store-bought chopped romaine lettuce at home, including salads and salad mixes containing chopped romaine lettuce, should not eat it and should throw it away, even if some of it was eaten and no one has gotten sick. If you do not know if the lettuce is romaine, do not eat it and throw it away," the CDC said.Restaurants and stores are advised not to serve or sell chopped romaine lettuce.In addition, the agency recommends asking grocery stores and restaurants to confirm their chopped romaine is not from Yuma.The advice is based on interviews with 28 of the ill individuals in which 93% of them reported consuming romaine lettuce within the week they began feeling sick."Most people reported eating a salad at a restaurant, and romaine lettuce was the only common ingredient identified among the salads eaten. (KGTV) - A nurse is calling her co-workers guardian angels after they saved her life.Early Borja is nurse a Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center and had quite a medical episode over the summer.Borja was in the car with her husband in July when she suffered what she thought was an asthma attack. It became more serious when she lost consciousness. Her husband drove her to the emergency room at Sharp Chula Vista, where a team of nurses, respiratory therapists and Dr. Nyda Pamintuan saved her life. Borja was revived and a few days later she was discharged from the hospital.On Thursday, she met the team that helped bring her back and also presented the doctor who led the effort with the Guardian Angel award.“I’m back alive working because of you,” said Borja through tears as she thanked the team.Borja has worked at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center for 27-years. 897

CHULA VISTA (KGTV) - A DUI/Driver's License checkpoint at one of Chula Vista's busiest intersections led to three arrests, police said.The Chula Vista Police Department said officers screened 751 vehicles at the checkpoint which was was conducted between 7 p.m. Friday and 1 a.m. Saturday in the 600 block of Palomar Street.Police said the three drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. In addition to the three arrests, police impounded nine vehicles and issued 21 citations for people driving without licenses or on suspended licenses. No other details were released.A total of 51 citations were issued for "various vehicle code violations," according to police."DUI/Drivers License checkpoints have been shown to lower DUI deaths and injuries. A major component of these checkpoints are the deterrent effects it has on those who might drive drunk or drugged impaired, bringing about more awareness and encouraging everyone to use sober designated drivers," the Chula Vista Police Department said in a release.More than 1,300 cars traveled through the checkpoint, police said.The checkpoint was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration."The Chula Vista PD will be conducting additional DUI/Drivers License Checkpoints through out the remainder of the year in our ongoing commitment to lowering deaths and injuries upon our streets and highways," police said. 1505
