CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- The man suspected of robbing a South Bay credit union was arrested following a crash Wednesday afternoon. According to Chula Vista Police, a man entered the Cal Coast Credit Union on the 300 block of East H Street around 2 p.m. Wednesday. Police say the man approached the teller window with his hand in his pocket simulating a weapon and demanded cash from the employee. After receiving the cash, the suspect left the credit union, getting into a getaway vehicle. Police were able to locate suspect based on vehicle information provided by a customer at the credit union. Officers spotted the vehicle going eastbound on H Street and tried to pull the suspect over, but he didn’t stop instead leading police on a chase. At some point during the chase, police say the man ran a red light on Otay Lakes Road, slamming into another vehicle. Both the suspect and victim in the crash were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police haven’t yet released the name of the suspect but say he is under arrest for the bank robbery and felony evasion. 1100

(KGTV) - California Highway Patrol officers opened fire, fatally shooting a suspect after a chase that began in Orange County ended in Chula Vista, the agency said.The chase started just before midnight when, for an unknown reason, Santa Ana Police attempted a traffic stop.The pursuit continued through San Diego County until coming to an end near I-805 south and East Orange Avenue around 1:30 a.m.At some point, CHP says officers opened fire on the suspect, who was later pronounced dead at the hospital. CHP did not say whether the driver was armed or whether there was anyone else in the vehicle.No CHP officers were hit, the agency confirmed. (KGTV) – The Chula Vista Elementary School District’s appearance on a website list of applicants seeking to reopen schools was determined to be a mistake, the district told ABC 10News.CVESD never applied for a waiver, stating on their Facebook page on Thursday night:“We are aware of a ‘Chula Vista Elementary’ fraudulently being listed as an applicant for a school reopening waiver. Our District has NOT applied for a waiver to reopen our schools. As a part of the waiver process, we would consult with labor units, parents and community organizations first.
