BEIJING, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- China's drug watchdog has launched a campaign to expose and crack down on illegal spread and selling of drugs on the Internet."Food and drug administration departments at all levels should explore effective methods to stop the sale of fake or inferior-quality drugs, especially those advertised and sold on the Internet," said Shao Mingli, head of the State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA), Tuesday at a meeting.According to SFDA's monitoring on six major search engines including Google and Yahoo, after typing the key words of "medicine" plus a type of common disease, such as "diabetes" or "high blood pressure," 10 to 30 percent of search results contained illegal drug-related information.Figures show that, among 196 web pages being monitored, 96 percent did not have or failed to show certificates for drug-related trades or other services. Some 39 percent have no Internet Content Provider (ICP) records in the database of telecommunication management departments.ICP is a permit to run web sites in China.According to the SFDA, these illegal sites usually advertise or sell drug products in the name of large hospitals or research institutes. Some even forged pages of the SFDA drug database to fool buyers that their drugs had been approved by the administration.The campaign is part of a nationwide crackdown on the violation of intellectual property rights and the production and distribution of fake and shoddy products, which began earlier this month.

MOHE, Heilongjiang, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- An oil pipeline linking Russia's far east and northeast China began operating Saturday.At 11:50 a.m., Yao Wei, general manager of the Pipeline Branch of Petro China Co., Ltd. (PBPC), pushed a button in the China-Russia border county of Mohe, Heilongjiang Province, five hours after the crude oil began being pumped through the pipeline to the border, marking the official start of operations after a two-month trial.PBPC is the operator of the Chinese section of the pipeline.The pipeline, which originates in the Russian town of Skovorodino in the far-eastern Amur region, enters China via Mohe and ends at China's northeastern city of Daqing. As 550,000 tonnes of crude oil had already traveled through the pipeline during the test run period, the Daqing terminal receives the oil 15 minutes after Yao pushed the button at Mohe."The operation of the China-Russia crude oil pipeline is the start of a new phase in China-Russia energy cooperation," Yao said at the launching ceremony.He noted that the pipeline would improve the nation's energy-imports structure and promote economic development.Sergey Tsyplakov, Russian trade representative in China, also said in early December that the completion of the pipeline project was a "milestone" for the development of both countries.Construction of the 1,000-km-long pipeline project, with 72 km within Russia and 927 km in China, started last year, and it will transport 15 million tonnes of crude oil from Russia to China annually between 2011 to 2030, according to the agreement signed between the two countries.This volume of oil means adding 8 billion U.S. dollars to the trade volume between China and Russia, and the import tariffs for China on the oil will be up to 10 billion yuan (1.5 billion U.S. dollars), according to the projection by Chinese customs officials based on the current international crude oil price.Yao said that after the oil arrives at Daqing's Linyuan Station it will enter the Pipeline Networks of Northeast China and be pumped to oil refineries in Dalian, Fushun and other cities.Luo Xuefeng, director with the entry-exit inspection and quarantine bureau of Mohe, said workers with the bureau would take daily oil samples to monitor the quality of the oil."So far, the pumped oil is qualified as regulated in the agreement," Luo said.The annual amount of oil shipped through the pipeline could increase, depending on the drilling capacity in Russia, said Tsyplakov.Further, Li Fuchuan, a researcher with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said the operation of the oil pipeline would not only increase the crude trade, but also improve mutual trust between China and Russia, laying an economic foundation for the two countries' strategic partnership.Zhang Shibin, deputy manager of the PBPC Daqing branch, said although the operation has worked well during the trial period, measures need to be performed to prevent pipes from cracking in May."The pipe will face an 'important test' in May as snow and ice will melt at that time, bringing challenges to us. BEIJING, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- China Thursday expressed the hope that the pricing difference on natural gas imported from Russia would be narrowed through joint efforts from both sides.Gu Jun, deputy director-general of the National Energy Administration's international department, made the remarks at a news briefing on Premier Wen Jiabao's upcoming visit to Russia and Tajikistan.Though companies from both sides had made many efforts in this regard, a certain difference still existed in the pricing of natural gas imported from Russia, Gu said, calling for additional sincerity to be demonstrated on the pricing talks by the two sides.Talks on this issue will be also a part of Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan's upcoming visit to Russia, she said.In 2009, Russia inked a framework agreement with China on annually supplying at most 70 billion cubic meters of natural gas to China, but they still did not reach an agreement on the supplying price.Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao will pay official visits to Russia and Tajikistan from Nov. 22 to 25 at the invitation of Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and Tajikistan Prime Minister Akil Akilov.During the visits, Premier Wen Jiabao will attend the 15th Chinese-Russian prime ministers meeting and the ninth prime ministers meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

BEIJING, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- China has sent three warships to escort a Chinese cargo ship that had been attacked earlier by pirates in the Arabian Sea near Oman, the China Maritime Search and Rescue Center (CMSRC) said Sunday.Twenty-one crew members, all Chinese nationals, have now been accounted for aboard the Taishankou.The center said the crew hid in a safety compartment when the pirates boarded the ship. It did not mention any injuries among crew members.The center received a call for help from the Taishankou at 4:40 p.m. (Beijing Time) Saturday. Chinese warships assigned to escort duties in the Gulf of Aden rendezvoused with the Taishankou at 8:44 a.m. Sunday.Additionally, the CMSRC advised vessels to pay more attention to safety since the area reported a recent increase in pirate attacks.This followed another Chinese ship, the Lecong, being attacked by pirates in the northern Indian Ocean Thursday. One of the 26 crew members aboard the Lecong was injured during a battle with the pirates.The Lecong is now sailing toward Oman under the escort of a Chinese warship, according to a report in Sunday's People's Liberation Army Daily.The injured crew member was reported to have suffered a wound and infection, though his medical condition was reported as stable.
