SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Even the MCAS Miramar Airshow, one the county's largest single day events, couldn't escape the impact of COVID-19.As the fight with the pandemic continues resulting in the cancellation of numerous activities and events in San Diego, producers of the MCAS Miramar Airshow set out to bring fans the exciting visuals from everyone's favorite military and civilian performers. The Marine Corps Community Services and Marine Corps Air Station Miramar created a special one-hour show titled, "2020 Vision – a Miramar Airshow production."The show features interviews with local civilian and military leaders, and performers who share their experiences about participating in the event. "We capture our airshow tradition's exciting spirit with new storytelling that brings you a side of these aviators that you would otherwise not get at the full airshow," said Capt. Matthew 'Red Bull' Gregory, Director of Communication at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.Cameras will take viewers behind the scenes and up in the air to capture the drama that happens over the skies of San Diego."It is a unique video for a unique time," he said.The show will also bring viewers up close to the event's biggest draw, the Marine Air Ground Task Force Demonstration, or MAGTF, a combined cooperation between tanks and infantry and aviation assets."We have an epic show bringing back some of your favorites – Jon Melby, Vicki Benzing, Aaron Fitzgerald, and the Red Bull Helo - as well as highlighting what makes Marine aviation some of the best in the world," said Gregory.It's only the third time the show has had to shut down since the Marine Corp. took over the base in 1997.The show will be broadcast Saturday, October 17 at 11 A.M. on the ABC 10News Facebook page, on 10News.com and apps, and the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Facebook page. 1853

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Exercise has been one of the most effective stress relievers during the pandemic, but it has also been a challenge for some people to find a way to do it. That's where Mike Cothrine comes in. He started Mike's Fit Family about eight years ago to teach teachers free of charge about how to achieve a healthy body and healthy mind."A lot of these ladies had never exercised before in their life," he says. "A lot of them were just happy that somebody cared about them, cared enough to take care of them the way they take care of so many."The idea is to get teachers moving so they can do the same for their students.Mike says, "They started to really feel the power, and started feeling themselves and that energy translated to the kids."Preschool teacher Sofia Martinez who teaches at VIP Village Preschool in Imperial Beach has lived those positive effects."My stress levels were lower, it helped me sleep at night," and she says, "I went down from a size 12 to a size 6."Sofia says the kids love the workouts and while they catch on quickly, they're not the only ones."We saw the effects on the children in the classroom and then it was starting to trickle into the homes and the moms wanted to join," she says.Mike's approach is holistic. He also teaches stress relief and nutrition. When you meet him it becomes immediately clear why he's effective. He exudes energy and a half. He says his inspiration comes from his childhood in St. Louis. What his family lacked in means, they made up for in love. So with his fitness background, he wanted to give back to those who also lack the means.He says, "That's the core value of myself and my team, we love you up."Mike was traveling across San Diego county helping 20 different school district groups when the pandemic hit. So, in his can-do fashion, he took his classes virtual. Forty live virtual classes a week from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. He asks those who can to pay so he can continue to give to others who can't. San Diego (KGTV) - A group of concerned residents made their voices heard at the Claremont Planning group meeting Tuesday evening.Several residents made public comments expressing their concern for a proposed homeless housing development at 5858 Mt. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A City Heights elementary school was placed on lockdown Wednesday morning following reports of gunfire in the area.San Diego Police responded to the call of shots fired near Colina del Sol Park at 5319 Orange Avenue just after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.Fay Elementary - located across the street from the park - was placed on a precautionary lockdown, according to police. The lockdown was lifted within an hour.Two individuals were detained following the reports, but police did not confirm whether they were associated with the shooting. Police did say they are searching for one more individual.Police recovered shell casings at the scene, but would not say how many were recovered. No injuries have been reported.SDPD officers were on the scene Wednesday afternoon investigating.  840

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A gaping hole in an Allied Gardens hillside has many residents worried of a potential catastrophe.Outside of John and Sandy Knox’s bedroom window is a massive sinkhole that has already swallowed up their tree. The couple fears their home could be next.A broken-down drain pipe that is 50 feet deep and 60 feet wide is believed to be the cause of the hole.On Tuesday, ABC 10News spotted City of San Diego crews taking measurements and assessing the sinkhole.John Knox said he owns his mobile home, but a property management company owns the land it sits on and might be on the hook for fixing it.According to Knox, the management company has ignored his calls regarding the hole.ABC 10News learned the city is now investigating. 755
