CHANGCHUN, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang Wednesday said the country's old industrial base should coordinate economic growth and industrial restructuring to revitalize regional development.     During an inspection tour in northeastern Jilin Province on Monday and Tuesday, Li urged stepping up innovation, pushing forward industrial restructuring, and improving people's lives, in order to achieve sound economic and social development. BEIJING, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- China's retail sales of consumer goods totaled 570 billion yuan (about 83.5 billion U.S. dollars) during the National Day holiday, with average daily sales up 18 percent compared with the same period of last year, the Ministry of Commerce said Friday.     Sales of household appliances soared during the eight-day holiday which started from Oct. 1. Among them, high-definition flat screen TV sets, digital cameras, side-by-side refrigerators and 3G mobile phones are consumers' favorites. In the case of Kaiyuan Mall in Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi Province, sales of household appliances gained by 34.7 percent year on year. The sales of jewelry of Caishikou Department Store in Beijing topped 100 million yuan, up 30 percent year on year. BEIJING, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- Prosecutors have approved the arrest of four employees of the Anglo-Australian mining giant Rio Tinto Ltd. on charges of trade secrets infringement and bribery, according to a statement of China's Supreme People's Procuratorate late Tuesday. Preliminary investigations have showed that the four employees, Stern Hu, Liu Caikui, Ge Minqiang and Wang Yong, had obtained commercial secrets of China's steel and iron industry through improper means, which had violated the country's Criminal Law, according to the statement.     Prosecution authorities also found evidence to prove that they were involved in commercial bribery. Four employees of the Anglo-Australian miner Rio Tinto Ltd. have been arrested over alleged stealing of China's state secrets, including Stern Hu, general manager of the company's Shanghai offic. The four people, including Hu, had been detained by China's security authorities Sunday evening    Investigations have also revealed that there were suspects in China's steel and iron enterprises who were providing commercial secrets for them.     The four were detained in Shanghai in early July on charges of stealing China's state secrets.          Stern Hu, an Australian citizen of Chinese origin, was general manager of the company's Shanghai office and was in charge of the iron ore business in China.     Hu was a long-standing employee of Rio Tinto and had lived in Shanghai for a number of years with his wife, who is also an Australian citizen.     The other three, who also worked in the Shanghai office, are Chinese employees of the company.

XI'AN, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang has said efforts should be made to promote steady and fast industrial growth while improving the quality of economic development.     Zhang made the remarks during a recent inspection tour in northwestern Shaanxi Province, underscoring the importance of adjusting industrial structure, promoting innovation and enhancing enterprise management.     He pointed out that the country's economy has shown a momentum of recovery from the global economic downturn, with more positive signs emerging, but the reviving foundation was not solid enough.     The government should stick to the proactive fiscal policy and moderately easy monetary policy, and give priority to ensuring economic growth, he said.     More efforts should be exerted to expand domestic demand, carryout the massive economic stimulus plan, and promote stable and fast industrial development.     Zhang also urged cutivating new industries, eliminating backward production capacities, and supporting backbone enterprises as well as small and medium-sized firms.
