GUIYANG, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- China Wednesday called for the European Union to have a balanced, objective, comprehensive understanding of the world's largest developing country during an upgraded strategic dialogue held in the underdeveloped province of Guizhou.State Councilor Dai Bingguo told the EU side that despite rapid economic growth, China has no possibility to be arrogant, nor is it pretending to be a richer or poorer country than it actually is, with unfathomable strategic intentions, according to Vice Foreign Minister Fu Ying."China expects the EU to treat itself as an equal," Dai was quoted by Fu as telling EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton.The meeting was the fifth strategic dialogue between the two sides and the first since it was upgraded from vice foreign-minister level to its current level.China had made remarkable achievements since its reform and opening up to the outside, but it is still a developing country, Dai said.China has a clear understanding of its position in the international arena and its current level of development, Dai said, adding it will focus on economic development in the long run.China has not been, nor is, nor will be in the pursuit of hegemony, but adheres to the path of peaceful development, Dai said.China needs a peaceful international environment for development and its development will promote global peace and development, he said.Ashton echoed Dai, saying that the European Union should have a comprehensive understanding of China.The EU's view of China's development was one topic of the one-day closed-door meeting."It is one major aim of this strategic dialogue to enhance mutual understanding between China and the European Union. BRUSSELS, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao urged Tuesday the European Union (EU) to objectively and fairly treat the RMB exchange rate issue as that would benefit the EU, China, and the world economy.Wen made the remarks while meeting the Euro Group troika, including Euro Group President and Luxembourg Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker, European Central Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet and EU Economic and Monetary Affairs Commissioner Olli Rehn.The meeting took place on the sidelines of the two-day eighth Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Summit in Brussels as China is under external pressure to appreciate its currency.Wen said China would further reform its formation mechanism of the yuan exchange rate to increase the currency's flexibility.China's central bank has announced on June 19 a series of steps of reforms. KIEV, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- Ukraine's coal industry ministry and China's state development bank reached an agreement on cooperation in the coal industry Thursday."We have signed a document which provides an algorithm for further implementation of investment projects," Yuriy Yaschenko, the Ukrainian coal industry minister, told reporters after a meeting with Gao Jian, deputy head of the State Development Bank of China.The memorandum applies to three investment projects to be launched in the Lugansk and Donetsk regions in eastern Ukraine, Yaschenko said."Chinese experts have already arrived in Ukraine, they are now visiting the shafts. They will inspect the technical condition and consider how to implement these projects," Yaschenko said.Gao said China's State Development Bank is willing to expand cooperation with Ukraine not only in the coal industry but also in agriculture, infrastructure construction and other fields.Ukraine's coal industry and China's State Development Bank signed a framework agreement on financial cooperation on Sept. 2 during Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych's visit to China.Under the agreement, Ukraine's coal ministry presented to the Chinese side a package of seven investment projects with an estimated cost of more than one billion U.S. dollars.

BEIJING, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- Property prices in 70 major cities rose 9.3 percent in August year on year but were unchanged on a month-on-month basis from July, China's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said Friday.The year-on-year growth rate was one percentage point lower than the year-on-year growth rate in July, a statement on the NBS website said Friday.The year-on-year growth rate was the slowest in the past eight months this year.On a year-on-year basis, China's home prices rose 7.8 percent in December 2009, 9.8 percent in January 2010, 10.7 percent in February, 11.7 percent in March, 12.8 in April, 12.4 percent in May, 11.4 percent in June and 10.3 percent in JulyNew home prices rose 11.7 percent year on year in August, down 1.2 percentage points from July. New home prices in August were unchanged from July, too.Prices of second-hand homes rose 6.2 percent year on year in August, down 0.5 percentage points from July. Prices of second-hand homes in August increased on a month-on-month basis, up 0.1 percent from July.The Chinese government took measures in April to cool soaring home prices, including curbing lending to developers, limiting loans for third-home purchases and requiring higher down-payments for second-home purchases.
