How’s that?”While public health experts suggest that more tests would lead to a lower positivity rate, America’s positivity rate remains much higher than a number of developed nations, including Canada, Spain, Germany and Italy. The US positivity rate remains lower than a handful of countries, including, Mexico, India and Iran. Data from another hard-hit nation, Brazil, is not widely available.Ashish K. Jha, director of Harvard's Global Health Institute, says the US is on the wrong path with testing."It's a problem. And widespread one," Jha tweeted. What are they and how do they work together?We went to a medical expert to try to get some clarity.“About 48 hours ago the president received a special antibody therapy directed against the coronavirus, working closely with the companies and monitoring him,” said Navy Commander Dr. Sean Conley. “Yesterday he received Remdesivir, and the plan is to continue a five-day treatment course for Remdesivir.”What is Remdesivir?Dr. Mangala Narasimhan, who’s been at Northwell Health for 13 years and has treated hundreds of COVID-19 patients explains.“Remdesivir is an anti-viral agent and it attacks the virus with hopes of making it less lethal and deadly," she said. "If you give Remdesivir early in the course before patients are really sick, you can prevent them from progressing on to a higher level of illness.”Doctors have recently been using the anti-viral drug on COVID-19 patients, but not the antibody cocktail produced by Regeneron Pharmaceuticals the president is also taking, because it hasn’t been FDA-approved.“Basically what your body does when it sees a virus it produces an antibody, so this is taking an antibody that was produced and cloning it so that produced in higher levels and giving it directly to you,” said Dr. Narasimhan. "The anti-viral cocktail is new, started developing in June, is not FDA-approved but they got it through a compassionate use for the president. (AP) — An Amtrak train headed to Los Angeles from Seattle has been stuck on the tracks near Eugene, Oregon since Sunday after hitting a tree that fell onto the tracks.The Oregonian/OregonLive reports the Amtrak Coast Starlight train left Seattle Sunday morning and stopped in Oakridge, Oregon around 6:20 p.m., according to Amtrak spokeswoman Olivia Irvin.She says heavy snow and debris on the tracks have kept the 183 passengers stuck in the area and it's not yet clear when they will be able to leave.Oakridge is about 45 miles (72 kilometers) southeast of Eugene.Irvin said road closures in the area due to heavy snow and downed trees are making it difficult to provide alternative transportation.She said there is currently enough food on board for passengers.Union Pacific is helping Amtrak try to clear a path for the train. 853

(KGTV) - Poway synagogue shooting suspect John Earnest should not have been able to buy the gun used in the April attack, according to state law.California Fish and Wildlife officials confirmed to 10News that the hunting license that Earnest, 19, used to get around the state's age limit of 21 was invalid at the time of purchase.Earnest picked up the AR-15 style weapon used in the attack from San Diego Guns on April 26, a day before he attacked worshipers at the Chabad of Poway, killing congregant Lori Kaye and injuring three others. Search warrants show that Earnest did have a hunting license but it was not valid until July 1, 2019. RELATED: Poway shooting suspect did not have valid hunting license when he bought gun, state senator saysIn other words, it was too soon for him to buy the gun used in the attack. On Tuesday, an employee at San Diego Guns declined an interview but said "We did everything properly. We did everything we needed."If that's the case, then question remains over how Earnest was able to buy the gun. The onus could be on the state. Danielle Rudolph directs sales and operations at Poway Weapons and Gear Range, which was not involved with Earnest. She says people who buy firearms must fill out a detailed application that goes to the state Justice Department. Applicants have to include details on any exemptions, such as hunting licenses. After a 10 day waiting period, the customer returns to the store to find out if the state approved their application."California does have one of the strictest background checks in the nation," Rudolph said. "We know they go through numerous different databases and if it comes back approved, we don't have anything else to go on based on what California is telling us."Rudolph added a gun shop can stop a sale if a customer is making erratic or dangerous comments, though that is rare.
