SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Two thieves prowled an entire neighborhood in Oak Park looking for something very specific on the vehicles.Along Blackton Drive, the sense of safety is shattered for David Cabrera.  Late Wednesday morning, Cabrera and his wife returned home to a neighbor telling them to check their license plate.  He discovered the registration sticker on his truck stolen. He had sliced his sticker into eight different sections as a precaution but it didn't help.Cabrera's surveillance cameras revealed the thieves:  a man and a woman walking together. A tree obscures the camera's view, but a woman can be seen behind Cabrera's truck, while the man stands and looks around.  The woman gets up and the two walk off.Seconds later, a neighbor saw the same woman peeling off a sticker from another car and the neighbor ran out of her kitchen to confront her.  That neighbor told the woman to put it back.  The woman got verbally aggressive but did put the sticker back.Neighbors called 911 but the thieves took off.  After Cabrera posted details on the Nextdoor app, five other neighbors reported also getting hit that morning."It's a feeling of violation. You want to feel safe in your own neighborhood," said Cabrera. 1275

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Tuesday morning a human chain formed outside of Rady Children’s Hospital to mark the start of Child Abuse Prevention Month.Hand in hand, dressed in blue, child health and welfare experts, law enforcement agencies, community members and leaders banded together to show support.“This is a circle of support for children,” said Dr. Suzanne Starling, medical director of the Chadwick Center. “We are holding hands to show we are encircling children with all the hope and all the services we can provide for them.”The human chain formed around the Hospital’s iconic Inspiration Fountain.“Child abuse is a very large problem, thousands and thousands of children in the United States are abused every day,” said Starling.She said abused children not only suffer physically, but mentally and emotionally as well.Starling said she hopes San Diegans can stand up for children and keep child abuse prevention in mind, even after April.If you suspect a child is being abused, you can report it by calling this 24-hour hotline 1-800-344–6000 or click here for more resources. 1089

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)-- A man was shot in the leg Friday morning in downtown San Diego's East Village neighborhood by a man who approached him asking to buy drugs, San Diego police said.The shooting was reported around 4:40 a.m. on 16th Street between K Street and Imperial Avenue, just west of Interstate 5.According to police, a man who looked to be in his 20s approached the victim on 16th Street, and walked off when said the victim replied that he didn’t sell drugs.About 20 minutes later, the same man returned and confronted the victim, pulled out a handgun and shot him in the leg.The victim was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive.The gunman was described as a 5-foot-8 black man in his 20s with a heavy build and curly black hair. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- U.S. Customs and Border Protection Tuesday arrested a woman they say was trying to smuggle more than 230 pounds of drugs into the U.S. with her five children in a van.Officers say the incident happened on April 9 just after noon at the Otay Mesa port of entry.During an inspection of the family’s Honda Odyssey, authorities found anomalies in the spare tire well, quarter panels, doors and gas tank.RELATED: Teens targeted to smuggle Fentanyl across US-MexicoAfter inspecting the vehicle, officers found 206 packages containing methamphetamine, cocaine and heroin.The estimated street value of the drugs is more than million, according to CBP.“CBP has seen many forms of drug smuggling through the years,” said Pete Flores, director of field operations for CBP in San Diego. “The hardest ones are when adults include their children in attempted smuggling schemes.”RELATED: Border Patrol agent arrested in North San Diego County on drug, weapons chargesThe woman was arrested and taken to the Los Colinas Women’s detention center.
