BEIJING, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao and other top leaders watched a large-scale musical epic on Monday recounting the country's road from the Opium War in 1840 to 2009, together with people from all walks of life in Beijing.     The nearly three-hour musical "Road to Revival", in dedication to the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC), was staged at the Great Hall of the People. PHUKET, Thailand, July 23 (Xinhua) -- China's Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi told reporters Thursday on the sidelines of the ASEAN meeting series that about the Korea Peninsula's nuclear issue, the UN Security Council's resolutions should be implemented and all sides should work hard to avoid escalation of tension.     "China's stand is very firm. We are working very hard for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, and we are totally against nuclear proliferation...This issue, the nuclear issue, should be solved by peaceful means through diplomatic negotiation," Yang said.     Yang made the remark before he entered the venue for the 16th ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), a top security forum in Asia which is held in the Thai southern island of Phuket on Thursday. They believe that this is the effective platform on which we can proceed to properly solve the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula," he said.     Yang said a sooner restart of the six-party talks will "do everybody good".     "So one should take a long-term and strategic point of view, and work for the earlier resumption of the six-party talks. China stays in close touch with all the parties concerned, because this is a good cause, this is a very important cause," Yang said.

BEIJING, OCT. 6 (Xinhua) -- China on Tuesday expressed appreciation over the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK)'s commitment to the goal of a nuclear-free Korean Peninsular and its adherence to realizing the goal through multilateral dialogues including the six-party talks.     Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu made the remarks in response to questions on the Korean Peninsular nuclear issue..  Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao (R) shakes hands with Kim Jong Il, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), during a meeting in Pyongyang, capital of the DPRK, Oct. 5, 2009.    China has always supported the DPRK-U.S. bilateral dialogue aiming at increasing mutual understanding and trust, and believed all sides should adhere to the six-party talks and make joint efforts for the early resumption of the process, Ma said in a statement.

PHUKET, Thailand, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi underlined here Wednesday the importance of tapping new areas of economic growth so as to enhance cooperation between China and the Association of Southeast Asia Nations (ASEAN).     Yang noted that one area of development is to implement plans to enhance agricultural productivity by drawing on advanced technology and to accelerate the cooperation on new and renewable energies. The ASEAN-China Foreign Ministers' Meeting is held in Phuket, Thailand, on July 22, 2009."We have maintained high-level exchanges, enhanced political mutual trust, shared development experience and strengthened confidence in cooperation," Yang said at the China-ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting on Wednesday afternoon.     China and ASEAN have completed negotiations on the China-ASEAN Investment Agreement, paving the way for the full establishment of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area (CAFTA) in 2010.     The ASEAN on Monday appreciated China's active role in developing transportation infrastructure between the two sides and welcomed the establishment of the 10 billion U.S. dollar fund for bilateral investment cooperation.     In April, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said that China has decided to set up a 10 billion U.S. dollar "China-ASEAN Fund on Investment Cooperation" to support infrastructural development in the region. 

BEIJING, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- The China Economic and Social Council(CESC) wants to boost exchanges with Niger's Economic, Social and Cultural Council (CESOC), a senior Chinese official said Friday.     Wang Gang, chairman of the CESC and member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks when he met with the chairman of the CESOC Amadou Cheiffou in Beijing.     Both councils grouped experts in social and economic development, Wang said, and could learn from each other, as they deepened cooperation.  Wang Gang (R), member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee,vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference,and chairman of China Economic and Social Council, meets with Cheiffou Amadou, chairman of Niger's Economic, Social and Cultural Council, in Beijing, capital of China, on Aug. 28, 2009    Wang, also vice chairman of the National Committee of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, said the two nations' relations had developed well since they resumed diplomatic ties 13years ago.     He also expressed appreciation to Niger's adherence to the one-China policy and its support on issues related to Taiwan and Tibet.     Cheiffou said the CESOC would continue to work to further its traditional relationship with China.     Cheiffou began the eight-day visit on Aug. 23. Beijing is the last leg of his tour, which has also taken in Shanghai and Guangzhou.
