Two students are injured — one of which is in critical condition — after a school shooting took place Tuesday at Great Mills High School in southern Maryland.The gunman died following the attack according to police officials.Jonathan Freese, a student at Great Mills, told CNN he was in lockdown in his math class. Police were going through classrooms to clear the school, and students will then be escorted out of the school, Freese said."I'm still a little shaken up," he said.Freese said the school had held drills a couple of times for this kind of situation."I didn't really expect for this to happen. I do always feel safe, though, because they always have police at the school," he said.According to CNN's research, there have been 16 confirmed school shootings this year in the United States prior to today.  Great Mills High School has an enrollment of just over 1,500 students, and the student body was about 56% minority students and had a four-year graduation rate of 91%, according to the school's 2015-16 improvement plan.Last week, students at Great Mills High School walked out of class as part of a student-led protest against school violence in the wake of the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.Al Murray shot video of police responding to the shooting at the high school Tuesday. Two businesses decided to close their doors for a day in reaction to white supremacist Richard Spencer’s speech at Michigan State University. The Carpathia Club in Sterling Heights, Michigan said it got a call from Attorney Kyle Bristow. He wanted to book a meeting on Sunday at the club for about 100 people.  “It was a law firm having a meet and greet. I didn’t think anything negative about it,” said Carsten Grotioh of the Carpathian Club.  “Then Sterling Heights Police came in and asked to speak to management.  They told me they heard there was going to be a Neo-Nazi gathering here on Sunday.”Grotioh learned that Bristow had represented Spencer as a lawyer, and the meeting was supposed to include Spencer’s supporters. He didn’t just cancel the reservation. He closed his business for the day. The owner of the Tipsy McStagger Pub in Warren said he had a similar experience. He got a call from Bristow’s Foundation for the Market Place of Ideas. He was told the organization wanted to host a networking meeting on Monday. When someone came into his business and informed him the networking involved people who supported a white nationalist, he says he was disgusted. “I said absolutely not are they coming to our bar. I mean, we are a neighborhood bar. I have been in this community 50 years. I retired from the Warren Police Department. I have seen enough hate. Our bar is what it is. It is a neighborhood bar. Everyone is welcome,” said John Vostoris, the owner of Tipsy McStagger Pub. Vostoris also decided to close his business to avoid any gathering there by people who planned to attend the event. The Anti Defamation League says standing up to hate, while not infringing on free speech is exactly what everyone needs to do.“It is not something we want to see in our state,” said Heidi Budaj, the ADL’s Michigan Regional Director. She says the fear is hate speech leads to action.  Nationwide there was a 57% increase in anti-Semitic incidents from 2016 to 2017. In Michigan, there was a 13% increase overall. “We want our state to be known as a welcoming place that embraces diversity. A place where we stand up against hate,” said Budaj. Scripps station WXYZ in Detroit reached out to the leader of the Foundation for the Market Place and asked if they rescheduled their meeting. Bristow said he suddenly resigned from the group because of the media’s vilification of him and his message.  2520

U.S. Senate candidate Roy Moore published an open letter to Sean Hannity on Wednesday night pushing back against allegations of sexual abuse that have placed his campaign at the center of a national firestorm and prompted prominent members of the Republican Party to call on Moore to withdraw from the race.In the letter, which came one night after Hannity said he would give Moore 24 hours to explain inconsistencies in how he has addressed the allegations before calling on him to step aside in the race, Moore suggested he was the victim of a political hit job."I am suffering the same treatment other Republicans have had to endure," Moore wrote Hannity.Moore faces accusations from multiple women that he pursued sexual relationships with them -- and in two cases engaged in sexual assault -- while they were between 14 and 18 years old and he was in his mid-30s.Moore denied dating underage girls, but only specifically addressed allegations from two of the women. He said "at the direction of counsel" he "cannot comment further."Moore said in his letter to Hannity that he was "in the process of investigating" what he characterized as "false allegations."On his program Tuesday night, Hannity demanded an explanation for a signature in a yearbook that appeared to have come from Moore. Despite Beverly Young Nelson -- one of the woman who accused him of sexual misconduct -- producing an old yearbook she said bore his signature, the embattled Senate candidate claimed he did not even know her."My signature on the order of dismissal in the divorce case was annotated with the letters 'D.A.,' representing the initials of my court assistant," Moore wrote Hannity. "Curiously the supposed yearbook inscription is also followed by the same initials—'D.A.' But at that time I was Deputy District Attorney, not district attorney."Moore added that he believed the "initials as well as the date under the signature block and the printed name of the restaurant are written in a style inconsistent with the rest of the yearbook inscription."The support of Hannity and other conservative heavyweights is crucial for Moore as he faces intense controversy. Thus far, Moore has responded to the allegations against him largely by dismissing them as supposed "fake news." If Hannity were to turn on him, it would signal to Republican voters in Alabama that there is merit to the allegations and that the reports in the media are not a political smear job as Moore has framed it.Hannity responded to Moore's letter at the end of his Wednesday night program and said that the allegations against Moore "are beyond disturbing and serious."But Hannity declined to drop his support for Moore, suggesting additional time and information is needed to render a decision. Twitter has recommended its more than 336 million users change their passwords.The company announced on Thursday it discovered a bug that saved user passwords on an internal log without proper encryption.Twitter said it has since fixed the issue. Although the company said there is no evidence passwords have been leaked or misused, it is urging its users to update their passwords."As a precaution, consider changing your password on all services where you've used this password," the company tweeted.Twitter did not specify how many passwords were stored in the internal log.The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment. 665

TUCSON, Arizona — Ballot counting continues across Arizona Friday in a Senate race separated by only a few thousand votes, and less than one percent.With hundreds of thousands of ballots left to be counted, it may be days before Arizonans know whether Republican Martha McSally or Democrat Kyrsten Sinema won the race to replace Jeff Flake in the upper chamber of Congress.But there's one not-unlikely scenario in which Arizonans may be represented by both Congresswomen in the Senate.After John McCain's passing in August, the responsibility fell to Arizona Republican Gov. Doug Ducey to appoint an interim replacement for the beloved senator in Washington. Ducey made a safe choice in former Arizona Sen. Jon Kyl, who retired from office in 2013. Kyl, however, only committed to serve in the role until early January, after which Ducey will once again have to choose a replacement until Arizonans make their choice to fill the seat in a 2020 special election.So who are the potential candidates? There was speculation over the summer that Ducey might appoint his own chief of staff to the role or even Cindy McCain -- the Arizona senator's widow. But should Sinema eek out a win after ballot counting is completed, McSally will be out of a job, having vacated her seat in Congress to campaign.If Ducey decides to appoint McSally, that could leave both candidates serving in the Senate until at least 2020. After that, the Republican appointee will have to decide whether or not to run in the special election.Ducey has left no indication so far about his intentions for the appointment, but McSally's name certainly isn't out of the picture. 1691
