Now, plans for the site's future are being released, including a hub for mixed-use offices, retail, and restaurants, according to the firm's plans. It will also get a new name: The Campus at Horton.Stockdale plans to use the center to cater to the tech industry and entice technology companies to the area.RELATED: Grocery chain suing Horton Plaza over millions in sales losses"The Campus at Horton will be a thriving innovation hub, comprised of creative office space, captivating entertainment options, urban lifestyle retail choices and contemporary food and beverage experiences, catering to leading technology and biotechnology employers, locally and nationally," Steven Yari, Managing Director of Stockdale Capital, said. The project is expected to create 3,000 - 4,000 jobs and generate more than .8 billion in annual economic activity."We're ripe in downtown for an office explosion," said Gary London, senior principal of London Moeder Advisors, a commercial real estate analytics firm. "There's been a big movement in corporate American to marry the places where people work with the places where people live."A rendering of The Campus shows the project's bold re-imagining of Horton Plaza to create an office and retail campus, green space, and transform walkways into one boardwalk through the site.RELATED: Jessop's?Jewelry closing after 125 years in San DiegoThe firm added there will be an opportunity for additional construction to add 1.5 million square feet to the site."Our hope is that this project will serve as a catalyst for bringing high-tech tenants and thousands of jobs to downtown and spur other developments that will do the same," Ashley Gosal, Inhouse counsel for Bosa Development, said.Construction on the project is expected to begin in early 2019, while the project is slated for completion in fall 2020.A series of community workshops will be held with Stockdale, the San Diego Chamber of Commerce, and Regional Economic Development Corporation to discuss the plan and gather community feedback. 2268

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Hundreds gathered in Balboa Park to pray for the 50 people killed in the New Zealand terrorist attack and spread the message that hate has no home here.About a dozen speakers shared stories of the victims or hate directed at minorities."It will take all of us to put hate back in it's corner," Sara Hassane, 17, said. "Just pure evil and again it has no place in this world and it's just sad," San Diego Police Chief David Nisleit said. He and more than a dozen of his officers surrounded the event, along with snipers on the roof of nearby buildings, ensuring the crowd felt safe."We have officers out here making sure we don't have a copycat or anyone tries to do anything," he said.Though fear, still permeated the crowd. "Is this going to happen again? Is this the beginning or the end or...?" Hassane said. Her father runs a San Diego mosque and she said everytime she comes in to worship, she told 10News she fears she won't leave and see her family again. While they prayed, two women told me they asked Allah for peace for the victims and love from one another, ending hate. 1108

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Due to the pandemic, high school sports are officially on hold until January at the earliest. But while frustration is setting in, CIF is doing everything it can to get the kids back on the field. There's nothing like high school football and the sights and sounds of Friday Night Lights, or a slam dunk on the basketball court. Unfortunately, because of COVID-19, it's wait-and-see for every high school athlete."I think it's very disappointing. Are kids, are families, are schools and communities have been waiting quite a long time and it's been tough," says San Diego Section CIF Commissioner Joe Heinz. There was hope of a December start, but as COVID-19 surged, it was negated by the California Department of Public Health. "It's definitely a fine balance across the nation as different things are happening," Heinz said. "I know our executive director is talking on a regular basis with the California Department of Health and with the governor's office."So for the time being, players, coaches, schools, and everybody else associated with high school athletics must be patient. It has everyone frustrated."You can't blame them. I think we are all frustrated. It's been a long time coming, and when you see other things going on in other states, which has been successful," said Heinz. Now, if the OK is given next month, Heinz says they will have a plan in place. However, there is no guarantee all sports can be played. "Obviously we could get to some point where we just don't have enough time to get a season in. There is no way to compact all of our sports into one season. We're just waiting for that opportunity to put a plan in place. We are just waiting for the word from the state," Heinz said. 1737
