Thousands of youth sporting events were canceled this spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic.It's tough enough that kids are missing a whole season of baseball or soccer. But now, soccer moms and dads everywhere are growing frustrated.Many paid hundreds of dollars for their kids to participate in spring soccer leagues that ended up canceled, and refunds are turning out to be elusive. Some families paid over ,000 for two children to join private clubs.One weekend of play, 0 goneJulie Hooper is the mother of a third-grader who only got to play one weekend before the season was shut down."For the spring soccer league, we paid 5," she said.When parents called the head coaches after the cancellation, they did not get what they had hoped."We asked where our money is, and they are keeping all of it and told us we get a 10% discount if we sign up for next season," she said.Hooper said she would understand had they at least continued training, but there have been no tournaments, games or practices, and the club still has the parents' money."I've heard from other teams, other clubs, that they would get money back from tournaments not played," she said.Where is the money?But many clubs are not giving refunds. News reports and Facebook complaints show soccer parents nationwide are asking where the money has gone.Some teams say they prepaid for tournaments and are having problems getting those deposits back from larger sporting organizations. Others say much of the money went to field maintenance and insurance, and those funds are gone for good.Hooper said she doesn't expect a full refund, but "to pay 5 and get so little, it just seems like we should get something back. TOWSON, Maryland — A Maryland pharmacist pleaded guilty to trading pain medication for sexual acts.Richard Daniel Hiller, of Owings Mills, Maryland appeared in court Friday when his plea was announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Robert K. Hur; Chief Terrence B. Sheridan of the Baltimore County Police Department and other law enforcement officials. “Abuse of oxycodone and other pharmaceutical drugs is one of our most significant drug enforcement challenges," said U.S. Attorney Robert K. Hur. "Those who divert pharmaceutical drugs for illegal purposes further the tragic cycle of addiction and the epidemic of opioid overdose deaths.” According to Hiller's plea agreement, he worked as a licensed pharmacist in Towson, Maryland from 2014 to 2017.Hiller admitted to filling fake prescriptions for multiple women if given sexual favors. He would tell the women to come to the pharmacy before opening and have sex with the women before giving the painkillers.Officials say, when trying to cover the false prescriptions he would list fake names. The women were addicted to oxycodone and would resell many of the pills to maintain their addiction.  Over the years, Hiller distributed approximately 20,500 15 milligram oxycodone pills.He faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison for the conspiracy and distribution. His sentencing is scheduled for November 15, 2018, at 10 a.m.  1507

This year’s first rehabilitated eagle is released back into the wild Monday, at Pioneer Trails Recreation Area, just north of Aurora, Colorado.She was originally found near this park March 2, with no apparent injury, but she wasn't flying.“We tested her and she had a lead level of 18.3,” said Betsy Finch, manager of Raptor Rehabilitation. “And that is micrograms per deciliter. Anything above 10 toxic.”Bald eagles are getting sick and dying from lead poisoning after eating the carcasses of animals shot with lead bullets. The Fontenelle Forest Raptor Recovery Center typically sees 20 eagles a year, it’s already hit that number this year; only two have survived.For the past seven weeks, Finch, has nursed the eagle released Monday back to health, treating her for lead poisoning, as she has done with many other eagles.“This is a real eagle celebration today,” Denise Lewis, Director of Raptor Recovery said. “This is what it’s all about.”Before her big moment, she is banded and photographed.It's bittersweet. Finch invests a lot of time nursing these birds back to health. But she insists, she isn't sad to see her go.“Not really,” Finch said. “They don't belong with us.”Out in the wild, she'll go right back to hunting, and soaring free.“If she has a mate out there she will find that mate,” Finch said.And she said it's not too late for her to breed yet this season.If you find an injured raptor, such as an eagle or an owl, call the Raptor Recovery Rescue Hotline at 1866-888-7261. 1531
