An executive action President Trump issued Saturday on the deferral of payroll taxes could put more money in your pocket soon. Much is still unknown about how the order will be implemented, but experts say to keep a few things in mind before making plans for that extra cash.1. It’s temporaryMany employees have a 6.2% Social Security tax withheld from their paychecks and remitted to the IRS on their behalf by their employer. “The executive order defers the withholding, deposit and payment of the tax,” says Matthew Keefer, a certified public accountant at Gorfine, Schiller & Gardyn in Owings Mills, Maryland. The deferral period runs from Sept. 1 through Dec. 31.2. You may not qualifyThe deferral is available only to employees whose pretax wages or compensation is generally less than ,000 biweekly, which works out to around 0,000 a year. And currently it doesn’t apply to people who are self-employed, notes Pete Isberg, vice president of government relations at human resources services firm ADP.3. The taxes are due eventually“This is a deferral of taxes, not a forgiveness of taxes,” says Michael Graetz, a tax law professor at Columbia University Law School in New York. “So at the end of the deferral period, all of those taxes will be owed unless Congress changes the law to say that they’re forgiven.”4. Consider setting the extra money aside for nowIf your employer stops withholding and you see a boost in your pay because of it, you might want to hang on to that cash for now, Keefer says. “Unless legislation is passed, the deferred tax from the executive order will be repaid in the future,” he says. Another option, Isberg adds, is to tell your employer to withhold additional money by filling out a new form W-4 at work.Of course, not all households can afford to set money aside these days. Still, if you need the money from this tax deferral now, don’t lose sight of the fact it could mean a tax bill later.5. Some employers may just keep withholding the tax anywayIt can take time for employers to revamp payroll systems, especially if they’re not using a payroll processing company, according to Isberg. Also, employers can be liable for employment taxes, even if they don’t withhold them, he says. “Employers know that, and they’re going to realize that, ‘Look, if I do this, could the IRS come back to me in January and just assess the full amount that should have been withheld?’ Well, technically they can,” Isberg explains. Most employers won’t want to ask their employees to repay four months of taxes, Graetz adds. “This turns out to be a very complicated problem,” he says.More From NerdWalletSome Taxpayers Face a Desperate Wait for IRS RefundsHow to Work Around Delays in Major IRS FunctionsIRS Data: Refunds Lag as Agency, Tax Filers Slow DownTina Orem is a writer at NerdWallet. An escort and "her protection" were arrested in Florida after they apparently showed up to the wrong house.Linda Elkins and Bosha Dawes, both 26, are facing loitering charges after Cape Coral Police said they showed up to a home on SE 10th Terrace and rang the doorbell just before 3 a.m."I would have answered the door with my shotgun," Rachad Leanari, a neighbor, told Scripps station WFTX in Fort Myers, Florida. The couple who lives in the home called police. They told officers Dawes rang their doorbell with something white covering his face. Elkins was with him. The couple then left, but came back shortly after before leaving again."They hid behind the post so they couldn't see him out the peephole," Melissa Jones, who lives next door, said. "She texted me at 2:30 while it was happening, saying 'is your husband banging on my door or ringing my doorbell?'""She seemed petrified. Petrified. I think they were seriously in fear for their life," Jones said.Police were able to catch up with Dawes and Elkins, who first claimed not to know each other or why they were there. They said Elkins was wearing pink see-through lingerie, and she told police she's an escort off of Backpage.com. She told police Dawes is her driver and waits outside while she goes into homes "for protection.""Floored...appalled...we have young children in our home that we don't let play on their bikes outside by themselves for weirdos, and that's a whole different kind of weirdo," Jones said. "We have young girls and young boys, and neither one need to be exposed to any little lady in a pink teddy at 3 a.m.."Elkins is also charged with using a false name, possession of marijuana, and had a warrant for her arrest out of Polk County for driving with a suspended license. 1768

An Australian energy company is giving hundreds of female employees a raise to make sure they get paid the same amount as their male counterparts. It's "not right or fair to expect women to have to wait any longer for the pay gap to close -- so, we're fixing that right now," said Catherine Tanna, managing director of Energy Australia, said in a statement announcing the move.Around 350 women at the electricity and gas supplier will receive a one-off adjustment to their salaries, with an average increase of about 3,500 Australian dollars (,740), according to the company. About 80 men who earn less than colleagues doing the same job will also get a salary bump. The raises will add an extra 1.2 million Australian dollars (0,000) to the company's annual salary bill. It announced the investment Wednesday, on the eve of International Women's Day.The changes will be made quickly. Energy Australia said the new pay packages will go into effect next month, effectively closing the company's current 2% gender pay gap.But addressing the broader issue of unequal pay across Australia will take a lot longer.Australian women earn on average about 84 cents for every dollar that men earn, according to government figures. The gap widens once annual bonuses and other additional payments are included, with women earning about 73 cents for every dollar that men earn. That means men working full time earn nearly 27,000 Australian dollars (,000) a year more on average than full-time women employees, according to Australia's Workplace Gender Equality Agency.Everyone is playing catch up to Iceland. The Nordic country made it illegal to pay women less than men earlier this year, requiring companies to proactively get equal pay certification from the government.Iceland ranks first among 144 countries for gender equality across politics, education, pay and health policies, according the World Economic Forum's annual report on the issue.Australia comes in at 35, while the US is ranked 49.  2009

An American Christian missionary is thought to have been killed by tribespeople from one of the world's most isolated communities on a remote island hundreds of miles off the coast of India, according to officials. The 27-year-old American, identified as John Allen Chau, came to India on a tourist visa but came to the Andaman and Nicobar islands in October with the express purpose of proselytizing, Dependra Pathak, Director General of Police of the Andaman and Nicobar islands, told CNN."We refuse to call him a tourist. Yes, he came on a tourist visa but he came with a specific purpose to preach on a prohibited island," Pathak said.Chau did not inform the police of his intentions to travel to the island to attempt to convert its inhabitants. The island, North Sentinel Island, is inhabited by the Sentinelese people, who are protected under Indian law. Just more than a dozen people are officially thought to live on the remote island in the Andaman and Nicobar archipelago. 989
